Griffioen loves to play first with shapes and forms, then with materials and comfort for an interplay that yields incredible, almost [sculptural designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/archetypes). Erik Griffioen's [chairs and couches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/knoll-perron-bun) have a brilliant [graphic quality](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/magnus-olesen) that makes them interesting to view from all sides. I especially love the first one in the gallery. Erik Griffioen is a young Dutch designer based in the Netherlands. He will present his seating in Milan for the first time during Design Week 2009. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.6/10 - Popularity: 40% | Activity: 30% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Graphic Seating Designs:** Designers can explore creating comfortable seating with interesting and captivating shapes that offer a visual appeal. - **Sculptural Chairs and Couches:** Innovative designers can focus on creating furniture pieces that double as artworks, with beautiful shapes and curves, without compromising on comfort. - **Material Innovation for Seating:** Designers can experiment with new and unconventional materials to create seating pieces that are durable, comfortable, and visually appealing. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Furniture manufacturers can incorporate more graphic and sculptural seating designs in their collection to offer a unique experience to customers. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can use sculptural seating pieces as focal points in their designs, creating elegant and modern living spaces. - **Art and Sculpture:** Art enthusiasts can explore furniture design as a form of art, incorporating new materials and shapes to create beautiful sculptural pieces that are also functional. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Comfort-Focused Outdoor Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-grapy-lounge-chair.md) - [Contemporary Nordic Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nordic-chair-design.md) - [Ultra-Comfy Seating Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cushy-lounge-chair.md) - [Chunky Curvaceous Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/001-chair.md) - [Stunning Scandinavian Seating Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/scandinavian-seating-collection.md) - [Chic Upholstered Seating Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grazia-co.md) - [Stacked Pebble-Like Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/figure-sofa-and-lounge-chair.md) - [Outdoor Scandinavian Seating Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bste-lounge-chair.md) - [Leaf-Inspired Modern Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modern-lounge-chair1.md)
