# Smart Modern Planters The 'Dori' Flowerpot Uses Senors and an Irrigation System to Water Plants By Riley von Niessen | Published 2016-08-15 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modern-planter References: [indiegogo](https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/dori-watering-plants-for-you-home-green) & [facebook](http://facebook.com/dorithepot/) The 'Dori' is a sleek modern planter that comes equipped with [smart technology](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gardyn-studio-2). As its creators know, remembering to water flowers and other plants can be a hassle, especially if one is gone away on vacation or even just has an imperfect memory. In order to fix this, Jarek and Radek, two physics students from the Lodz University of Technology, decided to create a system that would ensure plants would receive just the right amount of water when needed. The [modern planters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/posha) work by collecting information from the [sensors inside of it](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oko-sensor), which tell it whether or not watering is necessary. If it is, then the Dori automatically adds water to the drying soil so that the plant doesn't start to wilt. The sensors that supply this information are able to tell everything from the soil resistivity and conductivity to the humidity and temperature. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.2/10 - Popularity: 24% | Activity: 34% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Home](https://www.trendhunter.com/home) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Smart Planters with Irrigation System:** Creating an efficient irrigation and watering system for potted plants by using smart technology like sensors and humidity detectors. - **Automated Plant Care:** Developing planters that can monitor and automatically adjust plant maintenance such as watering and soil nutrition requirements. - **Sustainable Indoor Gardening:** Designing smart planters that can help people grow their own indoor plants and vegetables using minimum resources like water, energy, and time. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Smart Home Devices Industry:** Innovating and introducing smart home products with plant care functionality like sensors and automatic watering systems. - **Gardening and Landscaping Industry:** Developing sustainable and efficient indoor gardening solutions and integrating technology to streamline plant care. - **Environmental Conservation Industry:** Promoting sustainable indoor gardening and farming practices to reduce the carbon footprint and enhance greenery in urban areas. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Self-Watering Smart Planters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-leafypod.md) - [Smart Self-Watering Planters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tendril-1.md) - [Futuristic Self-Watering Planters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-klaustrafloria.md) - [Naturalistic Self-Watering Planters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apot-selfwatering-planter.md) - [Dementia Support Smart Planters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/plant-smart-planter.md) - [Self-Watering Flowerpots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gropot.md) - [Virtual Pet Planter Pots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/plant-pot-concept.md) - [Digital Interaction Planters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/planta-planter.md) - [Automated Plant Irrigation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/plant-irrigation.md)
