The tree was originally designed by Lawrence "Bud" Stoecker in the 1960s. Lawrence spent the majority of his career as a designer and architect building modern, A-frame homes in the Rocky mountains. He built the tree for his family during a year when he couldn't afford to purchase one, and it quickly became a holiday favorite. Lawrence continually improved and refined upon the design throughout the 70s and 80s. Since then, the tree has been decorated with a different assortment of [crystals and ornaments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/merry-sparkles-outdoor-decor) each year. This year, Stoecker's grandson Matthew Bliss has breathed new life into the contemporary holiday tree, hanging it from the ceiling and illuminating it by a spotlight positioned below. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.3/10 - Popularity: 93% | Activity: 59% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Modern Holiday Decor:** There is a rising trend in modern holiday decor, including unique and innovative Christmas tree designs like the Modern Christmas Tree sculpture. - **Reuse and Recycle:** The Modern Christmas Tree sculpture promotes the trend of reusing and recycling materials to create sustainable and eco-friendly holiday decorations. - **Iconic Revival:** The reimagined Modern Christmas Tree sculpture represents the trend of reviving and modernizing iconic designs for a contemporary audience. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Home Decor:** The home decor industry can explore new opportunities to offer modern and innovative holiday decorations like the Modern Christmas Tree sculpture. - **Arts and Crafts:** The arts and crafts industry can tap into the trend of creating unique and personalized holiday decorations using unconventional materials like acrylic rings. - **Event Planning:** Event planning professionals can incorporate the Modern Christmas Tree sculpture into their designs to create memorable and visually striking holiday displays. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Cutout Christmas Tree Displays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/christmas-tree-display.md) - [Neon Illuminated Christmas Trees](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fluorescence.md) - [Plastic Bottle-Made Christmas Trees](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/caroline-chaptini.md) - [Pop-Up Holiday Decor](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/one-minute-christmas-trees.md) - [Sparkling Illuminated Festive Wreaths](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/starry-wreath.md) - [Christmas-Themed USB Keys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/psb-xmas-tree.md) - [Charitable Christmas Decoration](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/charitable-christmas-decoration.md) - [Festive Brick Centerpieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lego-christmas-table.md) - [Mid-Century-Inspired Paper House Ornaments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paper-christmas-ornament.md)
