These eye-catching birdhouses take inspiration from a mixture of [mid-century architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vibrant-midcentury-modern) combined with California skate and surf culture. Each modern birdhouse has also been personally handcrafted by Barnhard himself in his Santa Cruz-based home decor design shop Sourgrass, and was constructed from high-end and re-purposed wooden materials locally bought and sourced from the surrounding area. Besides being pleasant to look at, the work of Barnhard also stands out for its attention to detail. A noted stand out is the double birdhouse model, with its matching floor to ceiling windows and slanted metal roofs, that really makes these birdhouses feel more like [miniature homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paper-christmas-ornament). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.6/10 - Popularity: 90% | Activity: 70% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Modern](https://www.trendhunter.com/modern) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Mid-century Modern Design:** Opportunity to incorporate mid-century modern aesthetics into various products and industries. - **Eco-friendly Home Decor:** Potential for using sustainable materials and repurposed wood in home decor designs. - **Blending Architecture and Nature:** Potential for combining architectural elements with nature-inspired designs to create unique products. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Home Decor:** Opportunity for home decor manufacturers to create modern birdhouses and other products inspired by mid-century contemporary designs. - **Sustainable Architecture:** Opportunity for architects to incorporate sustainable and repurposed materials in their designs, taking inspiration from mid-century contemporary birdhouses. - **Outdoor and Garden Retail:** Opportunity for retailers to offer modern birdhouses that appeal to customers looking for unique and stylish outdoor decor. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Modernism Birdhouse Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dwellings-project.md) - [Interactive Observation Wooden Birdhouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/domik-ptashki.md) - [Birdhouse-Resembling Narrow Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-birdhouse.md) - [Chic Modern Cuckoo Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modern-cuckoo-clock1.md) - [Birdhouse-Integrated Address Signs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/our-common-house.md) - [Educational Linoleum Birdhouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/elvi-birdhouse.md) - [Home Exterior Nesting Boxes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/numbird.md) - [Mid-Century Modern Historical Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lark-house.md) - [Sustainable Bird House Feeders](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bamboo-bird.md)
