# Modern Auditorium Seating The Genya Armchair by Lamm Folds Away as Though It Was Never There By Meghan Young | Published 2014-07-18 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modern-auditorium-seating References: [core77](http://www.core77.com/blog/furniture_design/super_designy_auditorium_seating_lamms_genya_system_27318.asp) & [architonic](http://www.architonic.com/pmsht/genya-lamm/1132542) Although seating is often a hot topic in the industrial design community, the conversation rarely falls on modern auditorium seating. Yet it would be a shame not to bring attention to the Genya armchair. Designed by Dante Bonuccelli and manufactured by Lamm, the modern auditorium seating could be mistaken for a number of abstract things including a easy-to-master maze amongst other things. This is because the Genya system folds up seamlessly with its backrest so that the modern auditorium seating looks as though it never existed. Made out of non-deformable, CFC-free, polyurethane foam padding, it not only looks sleek, it is very comfortable as well. This is saying a lot considering that such public seats are never a delight to sit in. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.0/10 - Popularity: 37% | Activity: 14% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Fold-away Auditorium Seating:** Opportunity for furniture companies to develop innovative, space-saving seating solutions for auditoriums and public spaces. - **Comfortable Public Seating:** Opportunity for design companies to develop comfortable seating solutions for high-traffic public areas such as airports and train stations. - **Sustainable Seating Materials:** Opportunity for manufacturers to create auditorium seating using environmentally-friendly and non-toxic materials. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Manufacturing Industry:** Auditorium seating manufacturers can innovate by creating lightweight, space-saving seating solutions that can enhance public spaces. - **Interior Design Industry:** Interior designers can collaborate with manufacturers to create comfortable, modern, and attractive seating solutions for public spaces. - **Sustainable Manufacturing Industry:** Manufacturers can identify new sustainable materials for seating manufacture and enforce socially responsible sourcing practices to reducing waste production. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Practical Folding Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/patan-chair.md) - [Circular Modernist Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zerogravity-chair.md) - [Simple Assembly Dining Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yugan.md) - [Geometric Flatpacked Wooden Armchairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sedia-tonda.md) - [Comfortable Theater Seat Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/comfortable-theater-seat.md) - [Systematic Seating Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hybla-seating-system.md) - [Seating Solution Design Projects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/metaproject.md) - [Uniquely Structured Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yay-chair.md) - [Sustainable Curved Armchairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gomo-armchair.md)
