# Immersive Paper Installations The MOCA Pacific Design Center 'Gas Giant' Exhibit is Surreal By Meghan Young | Published 2014-03-25 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moca-pacific-design-center-gas-giant References: [mymodernmet](http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/jacob-hashimoto-moca-gas-giants) & [moca.org](http://www.moca.org/museum/exhibitiondetail.php?&id=491) Stepping into the MOCA Pacific Design Center 'Gas Giant' exhibit will feel like walking straight into a 3D painting. Although that might only feel possible in the world of Harry Potter, Japanese-American artist Jacob Hashimoto, who is based in New York City, managed to achieve such a feat with the help of countless [paper kites](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shining-a-light) that act like the dots in a Pointillist painting. His first solo show in Los Angeles, California, the MOCA Pacific Design Center 'Gas Giant' exhibit was previously shown in Venice, Italy, last year as well as [Chicago, Illinois](http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gas-giant-by-jacob-hashimoto), the year before. Momentously immersive, this exhibit will be his last. For those lucky enough to be in the vicinity, the surreal sculptural installation is a must-see. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.7/10 - Popularity: 84% | Activity: 48% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Immersive Paper Installations:** The use of paper kites in installations creates immersive and 3D-like experiences. - **Surreal Sculptural Exhibits:** Artists are creating installations that transport viewers into surreal and dreamlike worlds. - **Pointillist Painting Inspired Installations:** Artists are using the concept of Pointillism to create installations that are composed of countless small elements. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Art:** Artists are pushing the boundaries of traditional art forms by creating immersive and surreal installations. - **Design:** Designers are incorporating immersive elements into their creations to create unique and engaging experiences for audiences. - **Entertainment:** The use of immersive installations in entertainment venues such as museums and galleries enhances visitor experiences and creates a memorable environment. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Paper-Made Mosaic Artwork](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/real-life-architecture-exhibition.md) - [Playful Pop Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/louis-vuitton-octopus.md) - [Forgotten Theme-Park Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/forgotten-fantasy.md) - [Space-Exploration Artful Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kosmos-exhibition.md) - [Monumental Air Installation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iwagumi-air-scape.md) - [Immersive Balloon Experiences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/balloon-story-popup.md) - [Interactive Colorful Art Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/david-hockney-bigger-closer.md) - [Psychedelic Sculptural Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/frank-stella-recent-sculpture.md) - [Human Connection-Themed Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/satellite-exhibition.md)
