Using landscapes of national parks from old National Geographic photographs in her mixed media art portraits, San Francisco-based artist Lindsay Stripling has created a stunning series that is novel in both idea and form.

The artist reinterprets old photographs in her watercolor pieces, but keeps the face blank from features -- “I was leaving faces blank to speak to a lack of identity or loss of memory when I realized that the blank spaces can serve as an entry point into a new place,” she says about her mixed media art portraits.

Stripling then adds the vintage National Geographic photographs where the [blank faces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glass-portraits) are. “Landscapes are permanent and changing all at once and [public parks and spaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paul-anthony-smith) are something we hold close to our hearts,” says Stripling.
