# Whimsical Worker Designs These Mitch Blunt Illustrations are Surreal and Geometric By Josh Triantafilou | Published 2012-04-04 | Pop Culture Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mitch-blunt References: [mitchblunt](http://www.mitchblunt.com/) Artist Mitch Blunt recently completed a slew of illustrations rendered in [sharpy geometrical designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/collection-co) and bright, punchy colors that border on psychedelic. Topical and contemporary best describe the theme of these works. Whether it is a politician berated with microphones or a business-woman working in her office, these pictures are familiar and modern. Not all of the scenes are strictly business though; one picture depicts dogs posing in yoga positions against a pink-hued tropical background. Another is of a bird -- comprised of human head-shaped feathers -- that flies swiftly against a fuchsia sky decorated with slim clouds. These works convey whimsy using everyday, contemporary themes. By exploring the familiar through [quirky color schemes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/colorama) and cartoon-like drawing techniques, the artist achieves a decidedly [surreal effect](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tea-for-two-collection). It would be interesting if life imitated his art. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.0/10 - Popularity: 44% | Activity: 38% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Pop Culture](https://www.trendhunter.com/popculture) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Surreal Illustrations:** There is an opportunity for companies in the art industry to incorporate surreal designs into their products or marketing materials to enhance aesthetic appeal and attract younger audiences. - **Cartoonish Drawing Techniques:** Art supply companies can take advantage of the trend towards cartoonish drawing techniques by offering specialized tools such as markers or pens with a wide range of colors and tip sizes. - **Whimsical Color Schemes:** Companies in the interior design industry can capitalize on the trend towards whimsical color schemes by offering home decor products with unusual color combinations that reflect this style. ### Who This Affects Most - **Art:** The art industry can use surreal and cartoonish designs to create unique products or marketing materials. - **Art Supplies:** The art supplies industry can offer specialized tools for creating the cartoonish drawing techniques seen in these illustrations. - **Interior Design:** The interior design industry can use whimsical color schemes to create exciting and innovative home decor products. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Limited Humorous Art Prints](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/david-shrigley-1.md) - [Statement Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-street-art-1.md) - [Whimsical Sculptural Furniture Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/city-block-series.md) - [Vibrantly Colorful Dynamic Artwork](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kayla-rumpp.md) - [Spiky Inflatable Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/inflatable-sculptures1.md) - [Ultra-Colorful Design Studios](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/whimsical-studio.md) - [Ultra-Playful Studio Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bright-workspace.md) - [Striking Urban Wildlife Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clare-allin.md) - [Spectral Painting-Inspired Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/thomme-collection.md)
