# Transparent Stump Seating The Mist-o Trunk Collection Unites Natural and Unnatural Materials By Amelia Roblin | Published 2012-10-05 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/misto-trunk References: [designspotter](http://www.designspotter.com/product/2012/10/Trunk.html) & [mist-o](http://www.mist-o.com/works/2012/salone.html) The view from above the Mist-o Trunk [stool and side table](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tide-stool) is one that reveals a lovely tree-ringed timber top. The warm wood grain surface has been cut into a perfect square but remains as inviting as a true smoothed stump. But a delightful illusion is achieved in the odd objects that's attributed to the use of [transparent acrylic panels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glass-collection). A rectangular box was constructed to form the base of the furnishing so that each lumber block looks like it might just be floating. It doesn't always, but this [marriage of synthetic and organic materials](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/roots-collection-1) appears to work practically and aesthetically with a whimsical harmony. The Mist-o Trunk table and seating object would be an endearing addition to a minimalist space. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.8/10 - Popularity: 34% | Activity: 12% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Transparent Furniture:** The incorporation of transparent acrylic panels in furniture design creates an illusion of floating pieces, adding a whimsical touch. - **Natural and Synthetic Fusion:** The blending of natural wood and synthetic materials in furniture design provides a harmonious aesthetic that appeals to minimalist spaces. - **Illusionary Furniture Design:** Creating furniture that incorporates optical illusions, such as a timber top that appears to be floating, enhances the visual appeal of interior spaces. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture Design:** The furniture design industry can explore the use of transparent materials and illusionary designs to create visually appealing and innovative pieces. - **Home Decor:** In the home decor industry, incorporating transparent furniture with natural and synthetic fusion can offer customers unique and eye-catching design options for their living spaces. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can leverage the trend of transparent stump seating to create captivating interiors that showcase the fusion of natural and synthetic elements. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Nature-Inspired Minimal Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/capture-the-light.md) - [Wheeled Bright Stumpy Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stump-stool-1.md) - [Colorful Sustainable Recycled Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stump-recycled.md) - [Lucite Furniture Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/draga-aurel.md) - [Illusion Organic Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/siembra-capsule.md) - [Wood-Mimicking Furniture Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stool-and-table.md) - [Acrylic Multicolor Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lucid-side-tables.md) - [Sustainable Biophilic Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/inspired-by-nature.md) - [Handcrafted Stone Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pebble-stool.md)
