# Faux-Spill Flooring Mirror Puddles Add an Illusory Dimension to a Tidy Room By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-02-01 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mirror-puddles References: [mariedessuant](http://www.mariedessuant.com/index.php?/projects/mirror-puddles/) Who do we think we're kidding? Houses are places of clutter and chaos, so why must their finishings look so consistent and patterned? Not everyone will agree with this, and certainly not in every situation; however, pieces like these Mirror Puddles do introduce a playful quality into the home that recognizes the natural state of domestic mess. Marie Dessuant made these undulating-edged tiles from stainless steel, shaping them so that they resemble the abstract forms created by small pools of spreading water. With depths of just 1 millimeter, the pieces can be fixed to the top of existing flooring or integrated into the laying of a new [mosaic](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pulsar-collection). While the Mirror Puddles might give the false impression of untidiness, more importantly, they create [whimsical reflections of ceilings, walls, furnishings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/archvyli) and even people. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.3/10 - Popularity: 42% | Activity: 78% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Illusory Decor:** Designing home decor items that create optical illusions to add a playful and whimsical touch to the home. - **Integrated Art:** Integrating art and design by turning ordinary fixtures and furnishings into creative expression pieces. - **Functional Design Features:** Adding design elements that serve a functional purpose, such as masking imperfections or creating illusions of depth. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Home Decor:** Designing and manufacturing products that cater to the growing demand for unique and playful home decor items that double as functional design elements. - **Art and Design:** Creating and selling art and design pieces that blur the boundaries between the two, and add creative expression and fun to functional items. - **Flooring:** Introducing new flooring materials and design features that incorporate art and design elements, and offer unique and customizable options for homeowners and designers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Reflective Water-Themed Mirrors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lakes-collection.md) - [Optical Illusion Mirrors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hooptical.md) - [Illusory Doorway Mirrors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/panis-mirror.md) - [Reflective Material Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mirroring-dialogue.md) - [Dynamic Structural Mirror Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bton-brut.md) - [Travel-Themed Fractured Mirrors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/baggage-claim-mirrors.md) - [Curvaceous Shelf-Paired Mirrors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wave-mirror.md) - [Puddle-Imitating Minimal Vessels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/puddle-series.md) - [Dynamic Structural Mirror Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zigzag-collection.md)
