# Mirror Image Search Engines 'elgooG' Turns Internet Surfing Into a Mind-Bender By Hayley Grieve | Published 2009-03-20 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mirror-image-search-engine-elgoog-turns-net-surfing-into-a-mind-bender References: [elgoog.rb-hosting.de](http://elgoog.rb-hosting.de/index.cgi) In case the average web-surfer has become way too clever in the art of search-engine domination, elgooG has come to their rescue. Everything, even the text-entry box, is set up backwards, requiring a search to be typed in reverse. The results also show up in mirror form, making them pretty difficult to decipher. Luckily, the actual website you want appears in good old-fashioned text. The site has even served as a way for Chinese netizens to trick The Great Firewall since it acts a cover in the initial search topic. As frustrating as it is to try to decipher, perhaps this may turn into a new online language, reminiscent of the infamous Pig Latin. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.3/10 - Popularity: 33% | Activity: 57% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Computers](https://www.trendhunter.com/computers) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Reverse Search:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop a reverse search engine that offers search results in mirror form, creating a unique and challenging search experience. - **Online Language Evolution:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create an online language platform that builds on the concept of reverse search, allowing users to communicate in a unique and cryptic way. - **Anti-censorship Tools:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Build a search engine that acts as a cover to bypass internet censorship, similar to elgooG's ability to trick The Great Firewall of China. ### Who This Affects Most - **Search Engines:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop new search engine technologies that offer unconventional search experiences, appealing to users seeking novelty and challenge. - **Language Learning:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create language learning platforms that incorporate reverse search techniques to enhance learners' cognitive abilities and problem-solving skills. - **Internet Security:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop anti-censorship tools and technologies that enable users to bypass internet censorship and access restricted content with ease. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Versatile Search Engine Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/multi-search.md) - [Sarcastic Internet Search Tutorials](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/let-me-google-that.md) - [Multilingual Search Engines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/multilingual-search-engines.md) - [Internal AI Search Engines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gosearch.md) - [Advanced Image-Searching Features](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/google-4.md) - [Show-Inspired Browser Games](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/squid-game-1.md) - [Emoji Search Engines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/emoogle.md) - [AI-Powered Search Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/duckduckgo-2.md) - [Multi-Source Search Engines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/youcom.md)
