# Acoustic Diner Decor The Minimalist Interior of the Black Hogg Eatery Eliminates Ambient Sounds By Gil Cohen | Published 2013-04-02 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-interior References: [dwell](http://www.dwell.com/food/article/black-hogg-silver-lake) & [brendanravenhill](http://www.brendanravenhill.com/black-hogg/) The challenge facing designer Brendan Ravenhill at the [Black Hogg](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/black-barn-1) diner in Silver Lake is the goal to create a minimalist interior design that somehow combats the convoluted sound effects of the space. He pulled the entire room together with two-inch white oak plywood strips that coat the walls and counters, hiding a layer of [acoustic foam](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/linear-light) that serves to muffle the ambient noises that generally bounce around the diner when it gets busy. He then created the [Hood Light](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hood-design-studio) fixtures specifically for this project, with their bent shades of polystyrene and LED light strips that illuminate the room with a soft white light. Staying with the minimalist interior design, the chairs are upholstered in basic black. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.1/10 - Popularity: 45% | Activity: 11% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/furniture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Minimalist Interior Design:** Opportunity to incorporate acoustic elements into minimalist interior design to combat ambient noise. - **Acoustic Foam:** Opportunity to integrate acoustic foam into interior design to reduce ambient noise. - **LED Light Strips:** Opportunity to use LED light strips to create a soft and ambient lighting in spaces. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Restaurant Design:** Opportunity for designers to create acoustic solutions for restaurant interiors. - **Interior Design:** Opportunity to incorporate acoustic elements into interior design projects. - **Lighting Design:** Opportunity to design light fixtures that provide both functional and aesthetic appeal. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Paired-Back Chinese Restaurants](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pairedback-chinese-restaurant.md) - [Artificial Textural Cafe Interiors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hahouse-cafe.md) - [Reclaimed Interior Spaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/onyx-aether.md) - [Hi-Fi Café Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/trader-hifi-caf.md) - [Japanese Minimalist-Inspired Restaurants](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fifteen-east.md) - [Layered Cafe Interiors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/joe-blakes-holborn.md) - [Modernist Burger Interiors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/omg-burger-i.md) - [Light-Focused Warm Diner Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/light-years-diner.md) - [Dedicated Listening Cafés](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ja-hifi-caf.md)
