# Minimalist Eclipsing Chronographs Ivan Navarro's Minimal Art Piece is a Functioning Digital Clock By Alyson Wyers | Published 2014-11-14 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimal-art References: [mocoloco](http://mocoloco.com/fresh2/2014/11/11/eclipse-clock-by-ivan-navarro.php) & [paulkasmingallery](http://www.paulkasmingallery.com/shop/ivn-navarro_eclipse-clock) From celebrated Chilean artist Ivan Navarro comes a [minimal art piece and working clock](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cast-concept) that gradually illuminates as the sun rises. The Eclipse Clock is entirely dark at midnight but becomes fully bright by noon, slowly lighting up as dawn draws near. Made out of acrylic, aluminum, glass and [LED lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ming-3702-minimalist), the [circular clock](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/radius-clock) has the word 'Petrification' emplazoned across it. This is a nod to the archeological process "wherin historical time is consecrated through layers upon layers of organic sediments" according to the description by Paul Kasmin Gallery's PK Shop. The minimal art object represents, therefore, a deeper reflection on the concept of eternity in addition to the correlation between light, movement and time. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.1/10 - Popularity: 24% | Activity: 2% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Minimalist Clocks:** Opportunity for creating unique time-keeping devices that blend art and functionality. - **Light-activated Technology:** Potential for developing innovative devices that respond to natural light and integrate technology. - **Art-inspired Interior Design:** Opportunity for creating artistic home decor that serves a functional purpose. ### Who This Affects Most - **Art and Design:** Opportunity for artists to explore new concepts in functional art pieces like clocks. - **Home Decor:** Opportunity for home decor companies to offer unique, art-inspired time-keeping devices. - **Technology:** Opportunity for tech companies to incorporate light-activated technology in innovative ways in their products. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Flowing Light Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/crydal-scroll-clock.md) - [Dynamic Shadow Wall Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/textural-wall-clock.md) - [Kinetic Pattern Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moir-clock.md) - [Minimal Dynamic Desk Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-desk-clock.md) - [Snow Landscape Sundial Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/light-time.md) - [Celestially Inspired Desk Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/astral-desk-clock.md) - [Linearly Formed Wall Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/linear-clock-concept.md) - [Pixelated Flip-Style Wall Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/miniot-klapklok.md) - [Moon-Inspired Wall Clocks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moon-trip-clock.md)
