# Artist-Created Miniature Log Cabins Thomas Schütte Created a Tiny Dwelling with an Asymmetric Roof By Kalin Ned | Published 2018-06-21 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/miniature-log-cabin References: [dezeen](https://www.dezeen.com/2018/06/21/vitra-campus-thomas-schutte-log-cabin-germany-architecture/) & [thomas-schuette.de](http://www.thomas-schuette.de/) German artist Thomas Schütte made a contribution to the architectural presence of the [Vitra Campus](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tane-garden-house) in Weil am Rhein with a miniature log cabin. Aside from its hexagonal compact appearance, the structure strikes the fancy of passers-by with its [sculpturally inspired roof](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hee-house). The tiny building is realized through the utilization of "untreated logs of Nordic pine" and shingled plywood. The miniature log cabin is based on a small architectural model that was part of Thomas Schütte's exhibition at the Konrad Fischer gallery. The arty concept was spotted by Rolf Fehlbaum — Vitra's chairman emeritus. With a keen eye for artistic merit, the representative inquired about the possibility of making the design a full-scale structure. Although there is not a set use for the miniature log cabin yet, Thomas Schütte's work will definitely embellish the campus. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.4/10 - Popularity: 17% | Activity: 16% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Miniature Architecture:** Developing smaller scale architectural designs that are unique works of art can appeal to collector markets and offer an opportunity for market-disrupting innovation in the art and architecture industries. - **Sculptural Roofs:** Exploring innovative roof designs in architecture can enhance the appeal of buildings and structures, leading to opportunities to revolutionize the design and construction industries. - **Untreated Wood Materials:** Using natural untreated wood materials can give rise to innovative building designs that appeal to eco-friendly consumers, leading to opportunities to disrupt the construction and furniture industries with more sustainable products. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Artistic Sculpture Industry:** Partnering with architects to create miniature sculptures that can be scaled up into full-size structures can bring collector markets and offer opportunities to market-disrupting innovation in the art, design, and architecture industries. - **Architecture Industry:** Investing in developing unconventional and aesthetically appealing roof designs can be a key differentiator for companies looking to disrupt the architecture and construction industries and make a name for themselves in the market. - **Sustainable Building Materials Industry:** Using natural untreated wood materials in building designs can give rise to products that appeal to eco-friendly consumers and offer opportunities to disrupt the construction and furniture industries with more sustainable and environmentally-conscious products. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Compact Modular Forest Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/digital-house.md) - [Log Cabin-Inspired Minimal Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/restua.md) - [Boulder-Resembling Cabin Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/thrse.md) - [Miniature Seaside Wooden Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alexander-mcgee.md) - [Prefabricated Miniature Home Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cpsula.md) - [Nature-Surrounded Miniature Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-mini.md) - [Memory-Reminiscent Idyllic Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tane-garden-house.md) - [Hilltop Valley-Overlooking Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hermitage.md) - [Modular Wooden Shed Offices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/schtauss.md)
