# Thought Changing Furniture (Update) The Mind Chair Projects Into Your Head By Ayman | Published 2008-06-17 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mind-chair-ii References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2008/06/13/mind-chair-by-beta-tank/) Remember [The Mind Chair](http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mind-chair-thought-changing-chair) that Trend Hunter told you about back in February? That early polypropylene version of the chair was presented at the Design and the Elastic Mind exhibition 2008 at MoMA in New York. It was created in collaboration between Peter Marigold and Beta Tank. Well, designers *Beta Tank* have developed a fully working version of the Mind Chair. When you sit on it, the unique chair transmits moving images to your brain via a grid of solenoids on the chair back. According to Dezeen, “The solenoids take imagery from a video camera to produce impulse patterns on the sitter's back, which the brain interprets back into imagery.” “While the Polyprop was a model which we built in collaboration with Peter Marigold, we have built a working version. This chair lives at the Moorefields Eye Hospital and we are setting up a lab where people will be invited to try and see with their skin,” Eyal from Beta Tank says. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.0/10 - Popularity: 21% | Activity: 2% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/furniture) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Thought-changing Furniture:** Designing furniture that interacts with the mind through technology presents disruptive innovation opportunities for the home decor industry. - **Brain-computer Interface:** Developing technology that can transmit moving images to the brain via solenoids opens up possibilities for disruptive innovation in the field of neuroscience and healthcare. - **Multi-sensory Experiences:** Creating furniture that allows people to see with their skin introduces potential disruptive innovation opportunities in the field of sensory augmentation and virtual reality. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Home Decor:** The use of technology in furniture design presents disruptive innovation opportunities for companies in the home decor industry, revolutionizing the way people interact with their living spaces. - **Neuroscience:** Developing brain-computer interface technology for transmitting visual information to the brain holds disruptive innovation potential for advancements in the field of neuroscience and understanding the human brain. - **Healthcare:** The application of mind-chair technology in healthcare settings, like the Moorefields Eye Hospital, opens up possibilities for disruptive innovation in sensory rehabilitation and assistive technologies. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Modern Therapeutic Seating Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/reflect-1.md) - [Touch-Activated Color-Changing Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pangolin.md) - [Spiritual Meditation Chair Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/12-chairs-for-meditation.md) - [Essay-Integrated Dynamic Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pax-new-yorkea.md) - [Dynamic Intelligent Office Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dynamic-spinecare.md) - [Dynamic Moving-Illusion Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moving-furniture.md) - [Wellbeing-Harnessing Fan-Like Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shanti-chair.md) - [AI-Designed Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/deepmind-ai-chair.md) - [Suspenseful Statement Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/edgeofyr.md)
