Lluís Corbella and Marc Mazeres recently converted an old milk shop into a [contemporary Spanish home](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/villain-house). As consumers continue to rely on big-box stores for their shopping needs, specialty retailers have begun disappearing. These architects managed to repurpose a historic milk shop and turn it into a modern retreat.

'Gracia' is a private residence located in [Barcelona, Spain](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/isern-serra). Until it was acquired by the current owners, the building functioned as a milk shop. To turn the retail space into a functional home, the architects cleared away all of the internal structures. However, the architects did manage to salvage the roof and a central wooden pillar, which acts as a focal point in the space. The rest of the interior is minimalist, with warm farmhouse touches such as exposed brick and wood beams.

The contemporary Spanish retreat demonstrates how designers can convert retail spaces into functional family homes.
