# Suspended Scenic Spheres The Mikrokosmos Art Installation by Bigert & Bergstrom By Meghan Young | Published 2010-03-20 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mikrokosmos-art-installation References: [todayandtomorrow.net](http://www.todayandtomorrow.net/2010/03/19/mikrokosmos/) & [bigertbergstrom](http://www.bigertbergstrom.com/) At first I thought the Mikrokosmos art installation was similar to [The Anteroom Series](http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-anteroom-series) I recently wrote about, but this installation doesn’t involve abandoned buildings or photo projections. Instead, the Mikrokosmos art installation features fish-eyed, spherical photos that are lit from within. Created by Bigert & Bergstrom, they are whimsical and definitely memorable. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.0/10 - Popularity: 55% | Activity: 58% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Modern](https://www.trendhunter.com/modern) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Lit Spherical Art Installations:** Opportunities for artists and galleries to create immersive and unique experiences through the use of lighting and spherical shapes. - **Whimsical Design:** Design companies can use playful and surrealist elements to create memorable and eye-catching products. - **Alternative Photo Display:** New opportunities to showcase photography through the use of unconventional display methods. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Art Galleries:** Opportunities for art galleries to showcase experimental and immersive installations. - **Interior Design:** Designers can incorporate playful elements into interior design, creating unique and memorable spaces. - **Photography:** Photographers can explore alternative display methods and experiment with lighting to create unique and immersive experiences for their viewers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Site Specific Mixed-Media Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dreamsphere.md) - [Monumental Air Installation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iwagumi-air-scape.md) - [Wonderous Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/your-psychoacoustic-light-ensemble.md) - [Suspended Lighting Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/suspended-lighting-installation.md) - [Miniature Spherical Replica Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mini-sphere.md) - [Inflatable-Orb Stage Set Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/whomadewho.md) - [Swirled Public Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tunnel-vision-installation.md) - [Glass Solar System Artwork](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-solar-system-in-a-sphere.md) - [Unique Interactive Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-aurora.md)
