# Interactive Songwriting Software Microsoft Songsmith Matches Background Music to Your Vocals By Marissa Brassfield | Published 2009-01-14 | Pop Culture Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/microsoft-songsmith References: [seattlepi.nwsource](http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/business/395195_msftsong08.html) & [research.microsoft](http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/redmond/projects/songsmith/) Cheesy commercial notwithstanding, [Microsoft's](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clipchamp) upcoming Songsmith software is actually very cool. Like similar music composition programs, Microsoft Songsmith records your vocals; unlike these programs, however, Songsmith analyzes your melody and supplies you with background music meant to match it. Professional musicians can sing a melody and know exactly which chords to play with it. Amateurs and casual singers don't necessarily have this ability. Microsoft's Songsmith makes songwriting an equal-opportunity endeavor. There are several different genres of music, and a considerable level of user-friendly customization to make Songsmith's songs even more personalized. Check out a demo of the software below, and the incredibly cheesetastic commercial for Microsoft Songsmith. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.6/10 - Popularity: 22% | Activity: 78% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Pop Culture](https://www.trendhunter.com/popculture) > [Media](https://www.trendhunter.com/media) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Interactive Songwriting Software:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in the music technology industry by providing an accessible and user-friendly tool for amateurs and casual singers to compose songs. - **Vocal Melody Analysis:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in the artificial intelligence industry by developing sophisticated algorithms that can analyze vocal melodies and generate matching background music. - **User-customizable Music Generation:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in the software development industry by creating customizable music generation tools that allow users to personalize the background music according to their preferences. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Music Technology:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in the music technology industry by providing an accessible and user-friendly tool for amateurs and casual singers to compose songs. - **Artificial Intelligence:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in the artificial intelligence industry by developing sophisticated algorithms that can analyze vocal melodies and generate matching background music. - **Software Development:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in the software development industry by creating customizable music generation tools that allow users to personalize the background music according to their preferences. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [AI Singing Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-singing.md) - [AI Music Generators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-song-maker.md) - [AI Music Creation Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aisongai.md) - [AI Music Creation Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-music-creation.md) - [AI Music Creators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-song-generator.md) - [Instant Music Editing](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/songx.md) - [AI Music Producers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-song.md) - [AI Music Creation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sonauto.md) - [Seamless AI Song-Making](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/starmony.md)
