# Implanted Festival Tickets Some Attendees of 'Pause Fest' Trialled Entry by NFC Microchip Implants By Laura McQuarrie | Published 2017-11-04 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/microchip-implant References: [theguardian](https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2017/nov/01/under-the-skin-how-insertable-microchips-could-unlock-the-future) & [pausefest.au](http://www.pausefest.com.au/) 'Pause Fest' is a technology and culture festival that has been running for many years—but this year it decided to try something different, allowing a small group of volunteers to gain access to the event through microchip implant tickets. 10 participants were microchipped Australian Centre for the Moving Image in Melbourne, granting them a three-day pass to the festival. Beyond being of use at the festival, the chips have also been programmed to unlock the doors to one's home, gym, workplace and more. In a few months, the volunteers from the project will report how useful they found the implanted chips to be. While the idea of microchip implants have long been associated with a sci-fi future, some companies are now experimenting with microchips to help grant entry through locked doors and transportation systems. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.1/10 - Popularity: 55% | Activity: 89% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Gadgets](https://www.trendhunter.com/gadgets) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Microchip Implant Tickets:** Opportunity for events and festivals to explore the use of microchip implants as tickets, providing convenient and secure access for attendees. - **Multi-purpose Microchips:** Potential for microchips to be programmed for multiple applications, such as unlocking doors and accessing various facilities, leading to enhanced convenience and efficiency. - **Growing Acceptance of Implants:** Increasing acceptance and adoption of microchip implants opens up new possibilities for various industries to explore innovative applications and services. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Event Management:** Event management industry can leverage microchip implant technology to streamline ticketing and enhance the overall event experience for attendees. - **Security Systems:** Opportunity for security systems industry to incorporate microchip implants as a secure and convenient method for granting access to buildings and facilities. - **Smart Home Technology:** Smart home industry can explore integrating microchip implants to enable seamless and keyless entry to homes, enhancing convenience and security for homeowners. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Anti-Phone Theft Festival Pins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/block-pin.md) - [NFC-Enabled Sports Scarves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sports-scarf.md) - [Phone-Free Festivals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/phonefree-festival.md) - [Event-Focused Smart Badges](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/proxfinity-cue.md) - [Phone-Free Music Festivals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/over-yondr.md) - [Connected E-Paper ID Badges](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-id-card.md) - [Cryptocurrency Payment-Accepting Festivals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tomorrowland-brasil.md) - [Wearable Conference-Focused Technology](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bizzabo.md) - [Groundbreaking Accessible Cultural Initiatives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/accessfest.md)
