The [University of British Columbia](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tacommodation) (UBC) recently designed a series of micro-apartments that are meant to serve as an affordable alternative to traditional student housing. Like many schools, UBC is dealing with a shortage of affordable on-campus housing for students. This initiative aims to provide another option for those who are just looking for the bare necessities.

The micro-apartments at UBC are called '[Nano Studios](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nano-micro-house)' and they are located in the Gage South Student Residence. Each suite is 140 square feet in size and consists of two separate rooms. The main room comes with a kitchenette, a two-burner stove, a mini fridge and a bed that folds up into a desk. The second room is a full bathroom, complete with a shower, toilet and sink. In addition, residents will have access to amenities such as high-speed WiFi, a fitness center, lounge rooms and bike storage. In total, the rooms will cost between $675 and $695.

While the rooms may be small, they serve as a unique solution to the shortage of [affordable student housing](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tiny-house-1) at schools like UBC.
