# Functional Micro Apartments Designer Szymon Hanczar Created a Minimalist Space for Urban Dwellers By David Ingram | Published 2015-07-22 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/micro-apartment References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2015/07/18/szymon-hanczar-13-square-metre-micro-apartment-wroclaw-poland/) & [hanczar](http://hanczar.com/) Proving that sometimes less is actually more, designer Szymon Hanczar has re-designed this 13 square meter micro apartment into a cozy [minimal living space](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oldnew) that doesn't sacrifice comfort for functionality. Located in the Polish city of Wroclaw, this micro apartment cleverly features a double bed built over top of both a tiny functional kitchen and a separate bathroom. The front of the compact vertical structure also has [built-in cabinets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/florin-court-flat), and a sliding ladder can be moved to grant access to the storage space. Additional decorative touches by Hanczar helps to foster a welcoming aesthetic to the space. White walls and lightly colored wooden floors add an eye-pleasing light to the room; a hammock near the window creates a perfect area for relaxation, and a wooden wall shelf doubles both as an out of the way spot for bike storage, as well as creating a sort of decorative centerpiece for the room. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.7/10 - Popularity: 98% | Activity: 94% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Micro Living:** Opportunity for designing innovative, functional micro apartments that maximize space and comfort in urban areas. - **Multi-purpose Furniture:** Potential for creating furniture that serves multiple functions to optimize space in small living environments. - **Minimalist Design:** Demand for minimalist aesthetics in compact living spaces, focusing on simplicity, clean lines, and functionality. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Interior Design:** Space-saving and multi-purpose furniture design solutions for small living spaces, catering to urban dwellers' needs. - **Real Estate:** Building and marketing micro apartments as a viable housing option for urban dwellers seeking affordable and efficient living spaces. - **Home Furnishings:** Manufacturing and selling minimalist furniture designs that are specifically designed for small living environments. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Reimagined Minimal Parisian Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-cocoon.md) - [Thoughtful Micro Studio Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mini-studio-apartment.md) - [Cleverly Designed Micro Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cabanon.md) - [Reinvented Compact Living](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/affordable-housing-prototype.md) - [Multifunctional Small Studio Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/studio-mescla.md) - [Japanese Inn-Inspired Micro Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/la-tarta-piccola.md) - [Compact Living Bright Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apartment-ann.md) - [Nostalgic 70s-Inspired Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-special-studio.md) - [Box-Like Innovative Apartment Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/innovative-apartment-design.md)
