# Lumber Ribcage Lamps The Mickrib Light Has a Strong Frame of Repeated Wooden Rings By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-04-18 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mickrib-light References: [micklish](http://micklish.com/2012/05/31/mickrib/) If you think about it, a standard lampshade really limits the luminescent effects of which a lightbulb is capable. The Mickrib Light features a very unusual sort of diffuser that offers full intensity and the slightly softer option of louvering. Curtis Micklish makes these [table lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-soul) out of [panels of plywood](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blue-green-works), cutting them into five individual pieces that take exactly the same form. The keyhole outline includes a straight base, a short stand and a broad opening, all extruded backwards by the repeated arrangement of the separate components. The [light globe](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/big-glow-light) is installed in the bottom of the timber ring and can be seen unobstructed from two sides; however, when you turn the Mickrib Light 90 degrees, its rays are broken up by the strips for a more gentle glow. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.8/10 - Popularity: 38% | Activity: 7% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Sculptural Lighting:** Innovative lighting designs that prioritize artful, sculptural elements can provide a new and diverse range of options in lighting industry. - **Plywood Furniture:** Designing furniture using plywood can create an inexpensive, lightweight, and eco-friendly solution that cuts across different industries. - **Smart Lighting:** Integrating new smart technology in lamps and lighting systems can create energy-efficient and remote-controlled solutions in the interactive lighting industry. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Interior Design:** The unique designs and technical details in these lamps make them a desirable commodity among interior designers, who can benefit from incorporating these lamps in their designs accordingly. - **Furniture Design:** The use of plywood, a resourceful and inexpensive material, in furniture design presents opportunities for more sustainable and cost-effective furniture solutions. - **Lighting Design:** The use of smart technology in lighting design can present opportunities for energy-efficient and remote-controlled lighting systems in homes and commercial spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sculptural Wooden Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arc-lamp.md) - [Angular Layered Wood Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/riffle-led-lamps.md) - [Perforated LED Table Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lume.md) - [Raw Minimalist Pine Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hoop-table-lamp.md) - [Folded Timber Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flatpack-timber-lamp.md) - [Umbrella-Inspired Whimsical Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wasaga-lamp.md) - [Foldable Wooden Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/interactive-folding-lamp.md) - [Ribbed Tubular Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stella-desk-lamp.md) - [Pine Wood-Inspired Minimal Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jakobsson.md)
