# Aquatic Superhero Art Michael Schwartz Illustrates Comic Characters as Quirky Underwater Creatures By Jason Soy | Published 2012-08-31 | Pop Culture Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/michael-schwartz References: [bluedogeyes.tumblr](http://bluedogeyes.tumblr.com/post/30559090531/ocean-justice-league-by-michael-schwartz-the) & [mikejschwartz.deviantart](http://mikejschwartz.deviantart.com/) Superheroes have been re-imagined in myriad ways, resulting in some goofy characterizations, but I think these Michael Schwartz illustrations take the cake when it comes to making comic book characters even more bizarre than they already are. Rather than envisioning the likes of [Batman, Superman, Flash](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/batman-x-air-up) and more as humanoid beings, Schwartz has rendered them as [aquatic creatures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/coral-soaps-collection). Seeing sharks, blowfish, dolphins and other underwater species dressed in [ridiculous superhero garbs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/super-heroes-vs-villains) truly is worthy of a laugh. Equally as impressive as Michael Schwartz’s redesigns is the fact that he’s rendered over thirty illustrations in the series and does not seem to be slowing down. And when he isn't drawing beloved superhero as fish, he's rendering some of the most impressive comics-related pictures I have ever seen. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.8/10 - Popularity: 58% | Activity: 47% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Pop Culture](https://www.trendhunter.com/popculture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Aquatic Superhero Art:** Collaborating with illustrators to create a series of aquatic superhero artwork based on popular comic book characters can provide a fresh and unique spin on the genre. - **Reimagining Comic Book Characters:** Encouraging artists to reinterpret well-known comic book characters, such as superheroes, as different creatures or in unconventional settings, opens up opportunities for creating new and surprising visual narratives. - **Humorous Character Redesigns:** Exploring the comedic potential of transforming superheroes into quirky underwater creatures can lead to engaging and entertaining art that resonates with fans of both comics and aquatic life. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Art and Illustration:** The art and illustration industry can capitalize on the trend of reimagining comic book characters and collaborating with illustrators to create unique and visually striking artwork. - **Comics and Graphic Novels:** The comics and graphic novels industry can take advantage of the trend of humorous character redesigns to create spin-offs, collectible artwork, or limited edition comic book series that appeal to collectors and fans of unconventional storytelling. - **Merchandising and Licensing:** The merchandising and licensing industry can develop merchandise and licensing deals based on the popularity of aquatic superhero art, targeting both comic book enthusiasts and fans of aquatic life. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Comic Book Hero Collectibles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/comic-book-heros.md) - [Comic Book Character Cereals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dc-strong-berry-capn-crunch.md) - [Superhero-Themed Clogs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spiderman-x-crocs.md) - [Superhero-Inspired Water Vessels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/maverick-gt-stormy-knight.md) - [Comic-Inspired Soda Cans](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-heroes.md) - [Quirky Cartoon-Like Furniture Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flash-furniture-series.md) - [Superhero-Themed DIY Art Kits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jim-lee-batman.md) - [Dark Superhero Water Bottles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/batman-x-air-up.md) - [Collaboration Superhero Comics](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bazooka-bubble-gum-and-dc-comics.md)
