# Vibrant Blobby Benches Mexico City Seating Installation by El Ultimo Grito Promotes Community By Meghan Young | Published 2013-11-07 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mexico-city-seating-installation References: [psfk](http://www.psfk.com/2013/11/public-bench-art-installation.html) & [eugstudio](http://www.eugstudio.com/) The [Mexico City Seating Installation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iztapalapa-pilares-community-center) may look abstract and random, but in fact it was greatly influenced by the hustle and bustle of the metropolis it was created for. A far cry from traditional [public seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/leftover-bench), this installation brings to life vibrant blobs of red and black that provide as much visual stimulation as it does rest for the feet. Designed by designers Rosario Hurtado and Roberto Feo of the London-based studio El Ultimo Grito, the Mexico City Seating Installation is made out of a skeleton of wooden beams and bubble wrap. This skeleton was then completely covered with neon stickers. A fun project, volunteers as well as adult and children passersby helped to finish it. Talk about encouraging [community in a city](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/playful-sculptures). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.1/10 - Popularity: 19% | Activity: 7% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: South America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/furniture) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Abstract Seating Installations:** Designers are creating seating installations that break away from traditional forms, opening up opportunities for unique and artistic designs. - **Vibrant and Stimulating Public Spaces:** Public spaces are being transformed into visually engaging environments that stimulate and inspire people, providing opportunities for businesses to enhance community experiences. - **Collaborative and Engaging Design Processes:** Design projects that involve community participation and collaboration are fostering a sense of ownership and connection, presenting opportunities for businesses to tap into community engagement. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Art and Design:** The art and design industry can explore opportunities to create innovative seating installations that incorporate abstract and visually stimulating elements, transforming public spaces into immersive experiences. - **Community Development:** Organizations focused on community development can leverage collaborative design processes to create engaging public spaces that foster a sense of belonging and encourage community interaction. - **Urban Planning and Architecture:** Urban planning and architecture firms can incorporate vibrant and unique seating installations into their designs, revitalizing public spaces and promoting community engagement. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Playful Public Seating Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/playful-public-seating.md) - [Inflatable Molded Collective Seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/situation.md) - [Adaptive Public Seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/adp-bench.md) - [Repurposed Brick Public Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brick-public-furniture.md) - [Interaction-Promoting Public Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bench-seating.md) - [Dual Sculpture Seating Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/immaterial-0001.md) - [Waste Tarp-Made Public Seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/membran-collective.md) - [Book-Inspired Public Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sit-down-to-read.md) - [Playful Outdoor Seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-new-raw-1.md)
