# Fan-Like Metal Tables Fortress by Markus Johansson Looks Delicate but is Incredibly Sturdy By Meghan Young | Published 2014-11-11 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/metal-table References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/fortress-table-markus-johansson/) & [markusjohansson](http://markusjohansson.com/project/fortress/) Fortress is the name of a metal table that looks much more delicate than such a description would entail. Taking on an airy, fan-like aesthetic that is far removed from the heaviness of the material at hand, the [metal table collection](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/facet-collection) introduces a sculptural addition to the home. This form, however, is also very jagged since the edge of each metal table is made up of [laser-cut strips](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twist-side-table) bent to create each pedestal silhouette. Available in two sizes, the Fortress metal table can be [lacquered in various colors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/runda). Overall, they are bold and shiny in a way that feels more decorative than functional. Yet they are meant to be used as traditional tables would be in the home. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.9/10 - Popularity: 19% | Activity: 1% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/furniture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Airy Aesthetics:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore new ways to create delicate and lightweight designs using unconventional materials. - **Sculptural Additions:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop furniture pieces that double as art installations, blurring the line between function and aesthetics. - **Bold and Shiny Decor:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Incorporate bold and shiny elements into furniture designs to create eye-catching and decorative pieces. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Reimagine traditional furniture designs by incorporating unconventional materials and unique silhouettes. - **Home Decor:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Integrate art-inspired elements into home decor to create visually striking and conversation-starting pieces. - **Interior Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Collaborate with artists and designers to create furniture that showcases innovative aesthetics while providing functionality. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Colorful Contemporary Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/runda-tables.md) - [Skeletal Industrial Dining Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/landr-dining-and-conference-table.md) - [Shimmering Oceanic Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/liquid-table.md) - [Dynamic Strong Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sharp-table.md) - [Industrial All-Metal Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lockwerk-coffee-table.md) - [Sleek Metallic Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/scissor-side-table.md) - [Sophisticated Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/monumental-table.md) - [Illusory Cracked Base Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/conceptual-side-table.md) - [Impactful Industrial Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/to-steel-side-table.md)
