# Whipped Cushion Stools The 'Marshmallow' Metal Stool Juxtaposes Hard and Soft Materials By Michael Hemsworth | Published 2017-04-06 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/metal-stool References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2017/04/05/designed-to-look-delicious/) & [paulketz](http://www.paulketz.com/) The 'Marshmallow' metal stool features a cushion that looks good enough to eat with an aesthetic that likens it to the treat it shares a name with or a colorful whipped topping you might find on top of a cake. The 'Marshmallow' stool is the design work of Paul Ketz and features a metal piping base that is crafted from a singular piece of pipe. This is accented with the soft, malleable aesthetic of the seat cushion that sits atop the frame which looks as though it is spilling over. The 'Marshmallow' metal stool has been designed in a few different color options that make it look more like a [festive spring dessert](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bun-bun-chair) rather than a simple seating solution. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.6/10 - Popularity: 37% | Activity: 32% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Whipped Cushion Stools:** Whipped cushion stools offer a unique combination of hard and soft materials, creating a visually appealing contrast. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Design:** The furniture design industry can explore the use of whipped cushion stools to create innovative seating solutions that merge different materials. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can incorporate whipped cushion stools to add a playful and unique touch to spaces, showcasing the juxtaposition of hard and soft elements. - **Home Decor:** The home decor industry can embrace whipped cushion stools as statement pieces that bring both comfort and style to living spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Alien-Inspired Metal Stool Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/metal-stool-1.md) - [Stone-Like Styrofoam Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kinold-styrofoam-stools.md) - [Visibly Undulating Stool Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/concave-stool.md) - [Fluffy Soft Marshmallow Penthouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/marshmallow-penthouse.md) - [Sculptural Monochromatic Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/monochromatic-stool.md) - [Mochi-Inspired Seating Lines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mochiinspired-seating.md) - [Modular Bulbous Lounge Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sundae-modular-lounge.md) - [Minimal Metalic Bar Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foundation-bar-stool.md) - [Contrasting Element Concrete Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/conecto-modular-stool.md)
