# Animalistic Metal Origami Poligon Creates Abstract Foldable Sculptures for Playful Decor By Meghan Young | Published 2014-09-11 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/metal-origami References: [coolhunting](http://www.coolhunting.com/design/poligon-foldable-sculptures.php) & [kickstarter](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1548163915/poligon-make-you-own-sculpture) Whether used as home decor or as an alternative to traditional (albeit safer) toys, these metal origami creatures are cute and stylish. Foregoing paper for a material that will last a lot longer, the metal origami creations fold into abstract animals that both kids and adults will fall in love with. Chic and cute, the flat-pack designs encourage people to take a hands on approach when it comes to decorating their home with unique objects. Designed by Poligon, a studio founded by [Royal College of Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/phytosymbiosis) graduates Rodrigo Solorzano and Matthew White, the [metal origami sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/reflector-sculpture) are currently seeking funds on [Kickstarter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/origami-wallet). Clean, simple and fashionable, it is no wonder that the metal origami animals have already reached half its goal. They come in insect and mammal forms. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.3/10 - Popularity: 71% | Activity: 81% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [DIY](https://www.trendhunter.com/diy) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Metal Origami Sculptures:** The rise of metal origami sculptures as a unique and stylish form of home decor and toys presents opportunities for innovative designs and materials. - **Flat-pack Designs:** The increasing popularity of flat-pack designs allows for convenient shipping and assembly, opening up possibilities for disruptive innovation in various industries. - **Playful Home Decor:** The demand for playful and creative home decor items like metal origami sculptures creates opportunities for disruptive innovation in the interior design and home goods industries. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture:** Disruptive innovation opportunities in the furniture industry arise from incorporating metal origami techniques and designs into unique and functional pieces. - **Toys:** The toy industry can explore disruptive innovation opportunities by incorporating metal origami sculptures as a safer and more durable alternative to traditional toys. - **Art and Craft Supplies:** The art and craft supplies industry can tap into the trend of metal origami sculptures by offering specialized materials and tools tailored for creating intricate metal folding designs. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Folded Paper Figures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clara-von-zweibergk.md) - [Paper-Made Piggy Banks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/metallic-piggy-bank.md) - [Origami-Inspired Speaker Holders](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kogani.md) - [Origami-Inspired Floor Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ori-lamp.md) - [Paper-Made Origami Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hanging-origami-lamp.md) - [Folded Metal Sheet Organizers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foldy.md) - [Origami-Inspired Seating Capsule](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/origamiinspired-design1.md) - [Collapsible Outdoor Furniture Pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/origami-outdoor-furniture.md) - [Singular Metal Sheet-Made Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fold-chair.md)
