# Chain-Link Chairs This Metal Lounge Chair Modernizes Rooms While Resembling a Schoolyard Fence By Cadhla Gray | Published 2015-09-07 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/metal-lounge-chair References: [betterlivingthroughdesign](http://www.betterlivingthroughdesign.com/furnishings/wm-lounge-chair/) & [menu.as](http://menu.as/shop/furniture/chair/wm-string-lounge-chair-black) While chain-link may not sound like the comfy or coziest of materials for furniture, the WM metal lounge chair is a topic of design conversation. The chair's [metal grid pattern](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stamping-chair) resembles a schoolyard fence, bringing a contemporary air to any space. While somewhat harsh and cold looking, the wide back of the chair provides room for a luxurious cushion or a beautiful throw to be placed. By accessorizing the metal piece of furniture with wool or cotton pillows, the simple object can transform into a [mixed-media centerpiece](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/woven-chair-designs) for any room. The minimalist metal lounge chair acts as a modern update for any room that has grown a little boring. Menu's metal lounge chair is also available in a smaller version, the WM String Dining chair, available in both white and black. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.2/10 - Popularity: 67% | Activity: 20% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Grid-pattern Furniture:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in developing new furniture designs using grid-pattern materials. - **Mixed-media Centerpieces:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in creating furniture that can be transformed into mixed-media centerpieces for any room. - **Minimalist Modern Update:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in designing modern yet minimalistic furniture that can transform a boring room. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity for furniture companies to develop and market grid-pattern furniture designs that are versatile and can be accessorized. - **Interior Decorating:** Disruptive innovation opportunity in creating new ways to mix and match furniture using grid-pattern materials and accessories that transform simple furniture into mixed-media centerpieces. - **Home Decor:** Disruptive innovation opportunity for home decor companies to market grid-pattern furniture and accessories as minimalist modern updates to any room. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Industrial Exterior Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/osier-lounge-chair.md) - [Leather-Accented Industrial Seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/l1-chair-from-object-leuci.md) - [Industrial Leather-Padded Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/strip-chair-by-henge.md) - [Rattan-Like Modern Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mua-lau.md) - [Rope-Like Dynamic Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/caterpillar-lounge.md) - [Circular Modernist Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zerogravity-chair.md) - [Childhood-Inspired Outdoor Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/peace-outdoor-lounge.md) - [Ultra-Elegant Designer Outdoor Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/designer-outdoor-furniture.md) - [Contemporary Quick-Dry Patio Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/garden-lounge-chair.md)
