Bioluminescent algae is the unconventional material that's used in a [mermaid jewelry collection](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/marbella-club-x-daniela-villegas) created as part of a collaboration between Bompas & Parr and Goldie Rox. Titled 'Mermaid's Lunchbox,' this collection includes a number of dazzling orb-shaped pendants that are capable of glowing in the dark. The jewelry gets this ability from a chemical reaction that happens between a pigment and an enzyme, which are typically used in nature to defend against predators.

The jewelry pieces take on playful forms like crab-shaped lockets, [crab-inspired earrings and rings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/murder-hornet-ring) that take cues from prawns. The £2,000 glowing mermaid jewelry pieces will be available for purchase at an upcoming Lights of Soho art gallery event in London.

In the tradition of its multi-sensory events, Bompas & Parr served [glowing drinks and jelly](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aesop-hainan) refreshments at the Mermaid's Lunchbox unveiling.
