# Orbit-Inspired Lighting The Meridian Pendent Lamp is Inspired by the Movement of the Planets By Meghan Young | Published 2012-06-27 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/meridian-pendent-lamp References: [blogdecodesign.fr](http://www.blogdecodesign.fr/lumiere/suspension-the-meridian-par-propellor-design) & [propellor](http://propellor.ca/) While the Meridian Pendent Lamp may not orbit itself, it mimics the movement of planets around the sun by way of criss-crossing [wooden strips](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wood-collection-1) encasing the light bulb, which happens to symbolize the sun. A beautiful light fixture, it is great for the aspiring astronomer as well as the style-conscious individual. It is also perfect for both traditional and modern homes. Created by Propellor Design, a studio based in Vancouver, Canada, the Meridian Pendent Lamp is available in various wood veneers including birch and walnut in addition to colorful ecoresin versions. [Stunningly sculptural](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nova-pendant-light), the Meridian Pendent Lamp drenches the space it is placed in with warm light, which immediately creates a cozy and safe atmosphere for people. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.7/10 - Popularity: 17% | Activity: 26% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Sculptural Lighting Design:** Designing lighting fixtures with artistic and sculptural elements creates visually stunning and functional objects. - **Nature-inspired Lighting:** Taking inspiration from natural phenomena such as planet movement can lead to unique and visually appealing light fixtures. - **Sustainable Lighting Materials:** Using eco-friendly materials like wood veneers and ecoresin in lighting design can be a selling point for environmentally conscious consumers. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Interior Design:** Incorporating sculptural and nature-inspired lighting designs can be a way for interior designers to create unique and visually appealing spaces for their clients. - **Lighting Manufacturing:** Exploring the use of sustainable materials in the production of unique and visually stunning lighting fixtures can differentiate a company's products in the marketplace. - **Eco-friendly Product Design:** Using eco-friendly materials and nature-inspired designs in lighting product development can satisfy the demand of environmentally conscious consumers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Astronomical Concept-Inspired Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/copernica.md) - [Horizontal Glass Sphere Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/comet-pendant.md) - [Curved Pendant Ceiling Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nova-light.md) - [Astro-Inspired Sculptural Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/elara-suspension.md) - [Moon-Inspired Lighting Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lua.md) - [Solar System-Inspired Lighting Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cosmooval.md) - [3D-Printed Mood Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/orbyt.md) - [Origami-Inspired Suspended Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sora-pendant-light.md) - [American Oak Pendant Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/light-bean.md)
