# Scaffolding-Inspired Shelving The Meo Shelf by Olivier Desrochers is Dynamically Simple By Meghan Young | Published 2012-06-29 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/meo-shelf References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/meo-shelf-by-olivier-desrochers/) & [od-design](http://www.od-design.com/index.php?/project/meo/) The Meo Shelf is inspired by the look of scaffolding. The yellow metal propping up each wooden surface mimics the planks that hold scaffolding systems together. A simple concept, the Meo Shelf nevertheless gives the [classic shelving unit](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shelving-unit-01) a dynamic facelift that allows it to fit nicely into both traditional and modern homes. Created by Montreal-based designer Olivier Desrochers, the Meo Shelf is made out of [solid oak planks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/original-modern-shelving) and [steel supports](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sfso-1). The steel is available in a number of colors, from which a person can choose. A relatively low lying design, it will provide a great space for storage while adding a touch of decor to the specific area it is placed in. By combining both form and function, the Meo Shelf is the best of two worlds. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.3/10 - Popularity: 78% | Activity: 73% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Scaffolding-inspired Furniture:** Designers can create furniture that mimics scaffolding to give a dynamic and modern look. - **Low Lying Shelving Units:** There is a demand for simple and low-lying shelving units that provide both function and decor in living spaces. - **Colorful Steel Supports:** Incorporation of colorful steel supports can add an element of personalization to furniture design. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture Design:** Furniture design companies can incorporate scaffolding-inspired designs and colorful steel supports to create functional and modern products. - **Home Decor:** Home decor brands catering to modern living spaces can offer low-lying shelving units as both functional and decor pieces. - **Construction:** Construction companies can explore innovative use of scaffolding-inspired designs for temporary and permanent structures. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Clock-Accented Shelf Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/omega-shelf.md) - [L-Shaped Stacked Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loft-shelf.md) - [Folding Steel Shelving Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pli-steel-wall-shelf.md) - [Modular Organized Shelving Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/unit-shelving-system.md) - [Japanese Woodwork-Inspired Shelving Units](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/altitude-shelving.md) - [Dynamic Storage-Display Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shelf-life.md) - [Modular Configuration Shelving Units](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/repisa-01.md) - [Modular Contemporary Shelving Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/qurv.md) - [Abstract Jigsaw-Like Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spectator-shelf.md)
