# Macerated Dining Utensils Mend Dinnerware Unbalances Your Meals, Making it a Challenge to Eat By Elise Ying-Hei Ho | Published 2012-10-02 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mend-dinnerware References: [cb2](http://www.cb2.com/new-dining/dining/mend-dinnerware/f7784) The Mend Dinnerware looks like it's taken quite a toll. Designed with intentional raggedy edges and uneven sewing patterns, these porcelain dishes are a unique way to serve your delicious soups. Just be careful which edge you are aiming for or you might spill. Your guests will probably wonder if this was a pottery class gone wrong, which is even funnier, but they'll soon realize that the bowls and plates were crafted this way on purpose. Plus, if these dishes were ever to be accidentally dropped or broken by anyone, they could be fixed and repainted and it would seem like a perfect part of the design. The Mend Dinnerware gives eating a little more playfulness without the rigidity of proper meals, though users should be warned that spillage is almost definite with children. Not fun. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.8/10 - Popularity: 15% | Activity: 1% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Kitchen](https://www.trendhunter.com/kitchen) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Raggedy Dinnerware:** There is a trend for intentionally distressed or ragged porcelain dinnerware, offering a unique and playful way to serve meals. - **Imperfect Design:** There is a trend for purposely designed imperfect dinnerware, which offers a fun contrast to traditional, rigid tableware. - **Repairable Ceramics:** Repairable ceramics are becoming popular, as consumers look for eco-friendly and sustainable ways to enjoy their meals. ### Who This Affects Most - **Tableware:** Tableware companies can embrace the raggedy dinnerware trend and offer unique, playful designs that contrast with traditional tableware. - **Artisanal Ceramics:** Artisanal ceramic companies can embrace the trend of imperfect designs, creating handmade ceramics that celebrate the beauty of imperfection. - **Sustainability:** The trend of repairable ceramics offers an opportunity for sustainable dinnerware companies to create eco-friendly and long-lasting products. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Porcelain Dinnerware Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/monte-porcelain.md) - [Revived Mid-Century Serveware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tortugaware.md) - [Table Manners-Teaching Tableware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/baby-tableware.md) - [Playful Tableware Objects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/creative-dining-experience.md) - [Imperfect Pasta Bowl Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pasta-bowl.md) - [Sculptural Ceramic Tableware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/office-of-tangible-spaces.md) - [Coordinated Children-Focused Tableware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tableware-bundle-for-children.md) - [Kitchen-Focused Mending Kits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/poj-studio.md) - [Communal Tableware Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shaken.md)
