# 8-Bit Kitchen Essentials The Mega Man Cutting Board Lets You Chop Up Evil Robots and Veggies By Michael Hines | Published 2012-08-28 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mega-man-cutting-board References: [technabob](http://technabob.com/blog/2012/08/26/mega-man-cutting-board/) & [etsy](http://www.etsy.com/listing/107645545/preorder-8-bit-mega-man-end-grain) It may not look like it, but a lot of work went into creating the Mega Man cutting board. [Etsy](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/3dprinted-cookie-cutters) store [Prairie Oak Studios](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/muhly) constructed this 8-bit cutting board using 504 individual blocks of wood. Walnut, maple, cherry and purpleheart were all used in the building of this board. To top it all off, 2000 individual glue joints were used to connect all of the blocks. The amount of effort it took to build the Mega Man Cutting Board, combined with its beautiful look, make it more like a piece of art than a kitchen tool. Should you be looking to make an artistic and geeky addition to your kitchen, this cutting board can be yours for $230. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.9/10 - Popularity: 14% | Activity: 34% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Retro-inspired Kitchenware:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in creating unique, nostalgic kitchen products for consumers. - **Artistic Culinary Tools:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in combining functionality and aesthetics to create visually appealing kitchen tools. - **Geek-themed Kitchen Accessories:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in catering to niche markets by designing kitchen accessories inspired by pop culture and video games. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Home Goods:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in creating innovative and customized kitchen products for modern homes. - **E-commerce:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in selling unique and niche kitchen accessories through online platforms. - **Handmade Crafts:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in crafting customized and artisanal kitchen utensils and accessories. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Intelligent Preparation Cutting Boards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/4t7-smart-chopping-board.md) - [Heavy-Duty Cutting Boards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/epicurean-bbq-board.md) - [Multifunctional Kitchen Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/latticeboard-multipurpose-kitchen-board.md) - [Smart Cutting Boards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/versaware.md) - [Metallic Japanese Cutting Boards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/titanium-cutting-board.md) - [High-Performance Cutting Boards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-steelport-steelcore.md) - [Minimalist Preparation Cutting Boards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mudra-cutting-board.md) - [Intricate Wooden Serving Boards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-serving-board.md) - [Multifunctional Serving Boards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/convertible-serving-board-trio.md)
