# Sprawling Rural Residences The Meadowview House is in Conversation with Its Surroundings By Vasiliki Marapas | Published 2014-07-09 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/meadowview-house References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2014/07/09/meadowview-house-by-platform-5-architects/) & [platform5architects](http://platform5architects.com/) Platform 5 Architects designed the 'Meadowview House,' a residence located in a [rural village](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foxglove-house) of Bedfordshire, England. The picturesque site is bordered by hedgerows, trees and arable fields. The architects set the home up so that it interacted with the gardens immediately surrounding it, as well as the [distant landscape](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-by-the-grove). The house's linear, mostly horizontal form was significantly informed by the abstract agriculture. The form was differentiated by slight height differences throughout. A chestnut-clad box overhangs the ground floor; from a distance, it appears to be hovering above the hedgerows. The "hovering" volume is complemented by features such as a set of [cantilevered stair](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ayn3) and a recessed balcony. Inside, the well-insulated (and irrigated) home offers a route that gradually becomes more and more private as you walk through. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.8/10 - Popularity: 31% | Activity: 15% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Environmentally-friendly Architecture:** Opportunity for architects to incorporate sustainable design principles and materials in residential projects, such as well-insulated and irrigated homes. - **Seamless Integration with Surroundings:** Opportunity to design homes that interact with and complement their natural surroundings, using features like balconies and overhangs to create a sense of harmony. - **Innovative Use of Materials:** Opportunity to explore the use of materials like chestnut cladding to create unique visual effects and architectural elements in residential design. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Architecture:** Architects can leverage the trends of environmentally-friendly architecture and seamless integration with surroundings to create innovative and sustainable residential designs. - **Construction:** Construction companies can capitalize on the trend of innovative use of materials to offer unique and visually appealing options for residential projects. - **Real Estate:** Real estate developers can focus on promoting residential properties that prioritize sustainability, integration with surroundings, and innovative architectural design. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Meadow-Overlooking Sleek Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/studioac-1.md) - [Leaf-Inspired Countryside Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/leaf-house-1.md) - [Modern cedar homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/meadowlark.md) - [Living Landscape Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hedge-and-arbour-house.md) - [Rural Charred Modern Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stanfordville-house.md) - [Farm Architecture-Inspired Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/farmworkers-house.md) - [Hillside Embedded Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-in-the-slope.md) - [Barn-Form Family Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twisted-house1.md) - [Sustainable Country Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/three-oaks-farm.md)
