# Curving Cumulus Cottages The McBride Charles Ryan Cloud House is Whimsical By Shiori Mine | Published 2012-06-18 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mcbride-charles-ryan-cloud-house References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2012/06/15/cloud-house-by-mcbride-charles-ryan/) & [mcbridecharlesryan.au](http://www.mcbridecharlesryan.com.au/) The McBride Charles Ryan Cloud House features a curvaceous attachment on a century-old Edwardian home. The back facade provides additional living space and a picturesque view of the backyard pool -- perfect for summer night patio parties. The cloud-shaped design introduces a whimsical vibe to this historic family home. The grooved industrial grey exterior of the cloud-like construction makes this illusion even more authentic. The horizontal wooden slats adds dynamic movement, which draws your eye further into the space. The red-painted kitchen acts as the core of the home where all activity and spaces come together. It also doubles as a bridge that connects the old and new interiors harmoniously. Despite the fact these two living areas are dramatically different, the blend of original and contemporary designs is eye-catching. Don't judge a book by its cover when passing by the McBride Charles Ryan'Cloud House. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.5/10 - Popularity: 98% | Activity: 88% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Whimsical Architecture:** Architects can explore constructing buildings with unconventional designs to create visually captivating structures that attract the attention of people pass by. - **Hybrid Design:** Blending the old and new architectural designs, while preserving the historical elements of the building, offers an opportunity to create unique and evergreen designs that resonate with diverse market segments. - **Exterior Grooves:** Exploring the use of grooves in building exteriors offers an opportunity to create captivating structures that evoke curiosity and stimulate interest in anyone who views it. ### Who This Affects Most - **Architecture:** Architects can leverage unique designs and creative materials to create buildings that stand out from the competition. - **Construction:** The construction industry can tap into the use of contemporary and traditional designs to create visually appealing structures that evoke a sense of awe and admiration from viewers. - **Interior Decoration:** Interior designers can explore creative concepts in home interiors to help people achieve unique and diverse decors by virtue of integrating traditional and modern design elements. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Illuminated Curved Home Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cereus-house.md) - [Timber-Clad Home Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/thornbury-house.md) - [Sleek Garden-Edge Renovations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/waverley-house.md) - [Curved Brick Entertaining Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sobremesa-house.md) - [Garden-Connected Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-waverley-house.md) - [Creative Work-Encouraging Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/silver-lining-house.md) - [Adaptive Family Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/carlton-cottage-extension.md) - [Heritage Modern Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mygunyah-by-the-circus.md) - [Memory-Engrained Airy Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-of-lightness.md)
