# Alien-Accentuated Landscapes This Maxim Mjödov Photography is Otherworldly By Josh Triantafilou | Published 2012-04-20 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/maxim-mjoedov References: [photographyserved](http://www.photographyserved.com/gallery/Postcards-from-Africa/3502693) & [kvanta.org](http://www.kvanta.org/) Estonian photographer Maxim Mjodov recently shot a series of photographs titled, ‘Postcards from Africa.’ Despite their title however, one might think they were postcards from mars from looking at some of the shots. There is a distinctly alien feel to the photography. This comes from the digitally modified color schemes, the diminished lighting and most of all the [landscapes the photographs depict](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/farming-photographs). There is so little vegetation in these pictures, it seems that the closest foliage is a galaxy away. One feels as though they are looking at images sent from one of [NASA’s](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/black-void) Mars rovers rather than a post-card from a continent with roughly one billion people. The shots that do feature life do so sparingly. Interestingly, the sparse and alien feel of the photographs does not make them unpleasant; rather, they evoke a sort of serenity. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.8/10 - Popularity: 54% | Activity: 21% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe, Africa ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Digitally Modified Color Schemes:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop advanced image editing software that automates the process of creating unique and otherworldly color schemes for photography. - **Diminished Lighting:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create innovative lighting solutions that imitate the alien and ethereal lighting seen in the photographs, offering a new aesthetic for interior design and photography. - **Alien-inspired Landscapes:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Design new landscaping techniques and materials that mimic the otherworldly landscapes depicted in the photographs, creating unique outdoor spaces and attractions. ### Where This Applies - **Photography:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop AI-powered photography drones that can capture stunning, alien-like landscapes from remote and inaccessible locations. - **Image Editing Software:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create next-generation image editing software that includes advanced features for manipulating color schemes to achieve unique and alien effects. - **Interior Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Introduce a new trend of alien-inspired interior design that incorporates the use of ethereal lighting and otherworldly color palettes. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Anamorphic Fuzzy Glowing Vessels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alien-vases.md) - [AI-Generated Poetic Photo Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/emilio-alarcn.md) - [AI-Generated Real-World Transformations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-generated-world.md) - [Otherworldly Wooden Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-sculptures-1.md) - [AI-Generated Retrofuturistic Objects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/retrofuturistic-objects.md) - [Painting-Immersive Photo Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/new-ground-exhibition.md) - [Fungi-Inspired Multidisciplinary Art Projects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/black-void.md) - [Otherworldly Lighting Fixture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/otherworldly-lighting-fixture.md) - [AI Travel Photography](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/epic-ai-travel-photos.md)
