# Micro Air Vehicles Remote Control UFOs in Service in Iraq By Ben Preiss | Published 2007-07-10 | Unique Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mav-micro-air-vehicle-in-service-in-iraq References: [technovelgy](http://www.technovelgy.com/ct/Science-Fiction-News.asp?NewsNum=1111) & [defensereview](http://www.defensereview.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=811) If the Iraqis spots a little UFO in the sky, it's just the American army's latest surveillance tool -- the MAV (Micro Air Vehicle) developed by Honeywell. They don't have to worry about little men landing, just the soldiers watching using the onboard cameras. **Implications** - The micro air vehicle will use a "lift-augmented ducted fan propulsion system" and will be used to make sure roads are clear of bombs and hidden enemy attacks. You may be wondering, "What if it's dark out? How will the cameras see?" Well, the MAVs will also be equipped with thermal systems that will allow them to still remain useful once the sun has gone down. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.0/10 - Popularity: 85% | Activity: 88% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Unique](https://www.trendhunter.com/unique) > [Inventions](https://www.trendhunter.com/inventions) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Micro Air Vehicles:** Opportunity to disrupt the military industry with sophisticated surveillance tools. - **Lift-augmented Ducted Fan Propulsion System:** Opportunity to disrupt the transportation industry with new propulsion methods. - **Thermal Cameras:** Opportunity to disrupt the security industry with advanced camera technology. ### Where This Applies - **Military:** Potential to disrupt the military industry with cutting-edge surveillance technology. - **Transportation:** Potential to disrupt the transportation industry with innovative propulsion technology. - **Security:** Potential to disrupt the security industry with advanced camera technology for surveillance purposes. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Commercial Aerial Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ageagle.md) - [Multidirectional Miniature Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/multidirectional-miniature-robots.md) - [Rugged Unmanned Ground Vehicles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/unmanned-ground-vehicle.md) - [Missile-Firing Unmanned Drones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/missilefiring-unmanned-drone.md) - [Customized Volcano-Monitoring Drones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/littleraven.md) - [Multi-Mission Military Drones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vtol-drones.md) - [Miniature Flying Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tiny-robot.md) - [Drone-Equipped Security SUVs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-ghiath-smart-patrol.md) - [Hybrid-Powered Unmanned Helicopters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hybridpowered-unmanned-helicopter.md)
