# Book-Made Buildings The Book Cell by Matej Kren is an Octagonally Awesome Accomplishment By Brian G Randles | Published 2010-02-25 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/matej-kren References: [matejkren.cz](http://www.matejkren.cz/en/book-cell/) The Book Cell is an [octagonal building](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/octa-house) made entirely from books that was installed in the Modern Art Center in Lisboa, Portugal. Matej Kren is the Slovakian artist behind the construction of this [literary work of architectural art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yellamundie). I can't say that the Book Cell by Matej Kren is the best way to make use of literature, but hey, anything is better than having them rot away in an [unused library](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rahmah-library). Now a building made out of Kindles, that would be something. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.6/10 - Popularity: 56% | Activity: 13% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Literary Architecture:** The construction of buildings made entirely from books is an innovative approach to architectural design. - **Repurposing Literature:** Finding alternative uses for books, such as building materials, presents opportunities for disruptive innovation. - **Interactive Art Installations:** Creating interactive art installations like the Book Cell allows for unique and immersive experiences for viewers. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture:** Architecture firms can explore the concept of using unconventional materials, like books, to create innovative and sustainable structures. - **Publishing:** Incorporating books in non-traditional ways, such as building materials, opens up new possibilities for the publishing industry to expand its offerings. - **Art Galleries:** Art galleries can embrace interactive installations like the Book Cell to attract and engage visitors in unique and memorable ways. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Floating Wetland Bookstore](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/xixi-goldmye-bookstore.md) - [Wood-Wrapped Contemporary Libraries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/graded-school-library.md) - [Revolving Bright Kinetic Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/library-of-light.md) - [Sculptural Bookshelves Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-bookshelf.md) - [Block Puzzled Book Nooks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lego-book-nook.md) - [Juxtaposing Angular Libraries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brixen-public-library.md) - [Metal Sheet-Facade Book Stores](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shanghai-book-city.md) - [Temporary Translucent Libraries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/la-liberia.md) - [Distinctive Airlifted Structures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/karka-tower.md)
