Huawei Launches Its Mate 20 Series in London

Huawei officially unveiled its new Mate 20 Series in London, where I had the distinct pleasure of attending and seeing all the of the ground-breaking features its products have to offer firsthand.

The Keynote was held at ExCeL London, where thousands of people eagerly awaited to hear Huawei CEO Richard Yu address the brand's latest phone models. Before the keynote kicked off, a Danish singer known as Christopher opened up with his single 'Irony.' Once Richard came out, attendees were captivated by his excitement and all-around passion for the new series. Yu started his keynote by comparing the journey of the Huawei devices and went right into the notable features of the Mate 20 and the Mate 20 Pro.

Attendees were particularly amazed by the reverse battery, 3D scanning, camera and video capabilities. Huawei developed the world’s 1st wireless reverse-charge phone, capable of charging other devices by simply placing the phone back-to-back with another device. Along with this, the phone offers premium power with a 40w super charge battery, capable of reaching 70% at just 30 minutes of charging. As a consumer, it was refreshing to see how Huawei was able to tackle an issue constantly faced by mobile users.

Next, a demonstration of the 3D scanner was conducted live. Yu’s colleague used a stuffed panda to reveal how Huawei was able to go beyond the norm of phone capabilities. By scanning around the Panda, the phone created an image that was projected alongside Richard. Not only can photos be taken with an AR object, but videos can be recorded as well. It was electrifying to see the cutting leading-edge technology that was being displayed.

For anyone interested in photography, this is the phone for you. With a new Leica triple camera, the shot display has unparalleled HDR technology and light sensitivity, with wide-angle and macro shots being a highlight. The night quality shots in this series are also remarkable and videos were shown on-screen throughout the keynote, displaying how the phone captures Hollywood-like imagery.

Bob Borchers, VP of Marketing at Google, came onto the stage to discuss the partnership with Huawei. His enthusiasm and excitement at sharing Huawei as a signature YouTube device really helped provide that extra insight on how the Mate 20 Series edges out competing devices. Jan Becker, CEO of Porsche Design also discussed the car company's involvement in the Mate 20 RS. With a "less is more" motto, he described how this product series is at the forefront of both design and innovation, describing the phone as a new standard for mobile luxury.

The keynote also unveiled accessories, such as the Watch GT with an impressive two-week battery life and impressive GPS system with up to seven hours of GPS. Moreover, there was an opportunity to test and see the devices up close afterward.

On the last day of the trip, we got the opportunity to tour around the city and take snapshots with the Mate 20 Pro. I couldn’t wait to test out all the camera functionalities that Yu alluded to in his keynote. While testing the device, I was impressed with its wide-angle and macro features and the results of ultra high definition shots.

Everything from the hospitality of the Huawei team, to hearing the passion and the amazing work that was put into producing this series was great to witness. Considering how competitive the mobile industry is, it was refreshing to learn how Huawei is able to cater and adapt to the needs of consumers in such an innovative way. Overall, this new phone series consists of future-forward products that are disrupting the mobile industry and it was amazing to see these products being unveiled at Huawei's exclusive launch.
