# Pyromaniac Lamps Sam Thomson Creates the Simplistic, Stylish Matchstick Light By Jaime Neely | Published 2011-05-07 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/matchstick-light References: [hypebeast](http://hypebeast.com/2011/05/matchstick-light-by-sam-thompson/) & [kivi-d](http://kivi-d.com/) The Matchstick Light designed by Sam Thompson and Zack Shivers is one of the most interesting lights I have ever seen. The design of their Matchstick Light, although somewhat simple-looking, succeeds at coming across as something very contemporary and cool. The lamp consists of [six maple pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-soul) that, as Hypebeast describes, are "held together with high quality stainless steel machine screws and wing nuts." Although the Matchstick Light appears to have a frail or fragile design, the electrical wiring of the light is quite complex and delivers an efficient, powerful amount of light. If you're in the market for a [bedside table light](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/air-table-light) or [a new desk lamp](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/delite-20), you'd better get moving: only 28 lights were made, and I can guarantee that similar to a lit match, they aren't going to last very long. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.1/10 - Popularity: 23% | Activity: 2% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Home](https://www.trendhunter.com/home) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Contemporary Lighting:** Designing minimalist and stylish lighting fixtures using unconventional materials and construction methods. - **Limited Edition Products:** Creating scarcity and exclusivity by producing limited quantities of unique and innovative products. - **Efficient Lighting Technology:** Developing lighting solutions that deliver powerful and efficient illumination while maintaining a minimalist aesthetic. ### Who This Affects Most - **Interior Design:** Integrating unique and contemporary lighting fixtures into interior spaces for a modern and stylish look. - **Product Design:** Creating limited edition products that stand out in the market and appeal to design enthusiasts and collectors. - **Electrical Lighting:** Advancing lighting technology to create efficient and visually appealing lighting solutions for residential and commercial applications. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Quirky Common Item Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/table-lamp-lighter.md) - [Sculptural Wooden Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arc-lamp.md) - [Scenic Architecture Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/architecture-inspired-table-lamp.md) - [Romantic Modern Lighting Sources](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wick-s.md) - [Screw-Inspired Industrial Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/set-table-lamp.md) - [Simplistic Angular Desktop Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/linear-table-lamp.md) - [Stackable Modular Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/module-table-lamp.md) - [Pine Wood-Inspired Minimal Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jakobsson.md) - [Artistic Magnetic Lamp Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/scacco-matto-lamp.md)
