When Haf Studio, a Reykjavik-based design practice, created the interior of Mat Bar, it opted to harmonize the space with the building as a whole. The design is inspired by the visual gestures of the 60s, which is in line with the building where the new bar and restaurant opened.

All around the neighborhood in which Mat Bar sits, the cafes, bars, restaurants, and businesses seem to be stuck in time. Little of the architecture and design has changed in the area since it grew in popularity in the 60s, and so Haf Studio worked to incorporate that feel and ethos into its plans for Mat Bar.

The interior features a black and white diamond pattern on the linoleum floor tiles, circular, leather-covered stools and booths, and gold-trimmed panels on the bar and around the light fixtures.
