# Clustered Marble Lamps Norm Architects' Mass Light is Inspired by Outdoor Illumination By Meghan Young | Published 2012-02-27 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mass-light References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2012/02/27/mass-light-by-norm-architects) & [normcph](http://normcph.com/) As simple as the Mass Light may seem at first, it is actually made out of some very luxurious materials. Melding old world opulence with modern minimalism, the Mass Light boasts a stunning [marble base and white glass orb](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/emit). Designed by Copenhagen-based firm [Norm Architects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nord) for Dutch furniture manufacture '&Tradition,' the Mass Light would complement just about any living space. Great for eclectic family homes or stark bachelor apartments, the Mass Light has an androgynous design. Inspired by international street lamps from Paris, Barcelona and New York, the Mass Light takes their traditional shape and makes it suitable for indoor use. Hung one at a time or clustered together, the [pendent lamp is bold and strong](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nova-light). Nevertheless, its feminine curves soften the overall design. Its familiar shape allows people to focus on the marble. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.4/10 - Popularity: 43% | Activity: 21% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Luxurious Materials in Lighting Design:** The use of luxurious materials like marble in lighting design creates a sense of opulence and elegance. - **Minimalistic Lighting Design:** The trend towards minimalistic lighting design combines simplicity and functionality. - **Indoor Adaptation of Outdoor Inspiration:** Inspiration drawn from outdoor street lamps is being adapted for indoor lighting design. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Furniture manufacturers can explore incorporating luxurious materials into their lighting designs to create unique and high-end pieces. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can use minimalistic lighting designs to create clean and modern living spaces. - **Lighting Fixtures:** Lighting fixture companies can tap into the trend of indoor adaptation of outdoor street lamps to offer innovative and stylish lighting options for homes and businesses. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sleek Rechargeable Marbled Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/solid-table-light.md) - [Street Light-Inspired Floor Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/standing-lamp-marble.md) - [Archetypal Conical Light Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fragile-lamp.md) - [Illuminating Stone-Made Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nau-design.md) - [Modern Marble Waste Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sole-lamp.md) - [3D-Printed Cloud-Like Pendant Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lightmass-2025-pendants.md) - [Retro-Tinged Compact Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lari-mini.md) - [Simplistic Floor Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bellevue-lamp.md) - [Adaptive Marble Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/emit.md)
