The death-defying poses and athletic endurance captured in the Martin Schoeller Olympic photography series is breathtaking. In preparation for the London 2012 Olympics, Schoeller has been traveling the world photographing athletes for TIME Magazine and Women's Health.

Known for his raw, straight-on portraits, Schoeller is changing things up this time around with powerful, action-based snapshots. Whether it's the sheer concentration of swimmer Ryan Lochte or the mind-puzzling flexibility of gymnast Gabby Douglas, the determination to win the gold is expressed by Schoeller's emotive photography. If you prefer his more unapologetic style, fear not, because Schoeller also included a number of close-up snaps in his series.

The Martin Schoeller Olympic photography series will be featured on the covers of TIME Magazine during the upcoming summer games season.
