Created by [TIME](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/radio-time-machine) magazine, the chart 'Why It Would Be So Hard to Live On Mars: Seven Reasons the Red Planet is Inhospitable to Humans' takes the position that life on Mars, as humans, is basically impossible. The radiation resulting from a long-term Mars mission would be extremely dangerous. The average temperature is a "paralyzing" -81 degrees Fahrenheit (or -63 Celsius). What does exist of atmosphere is composed of a toxic [96% carbon dioxide](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/atmosphere-model). Martian gravity is 38% of Earth's, which would affect human cardiovascular, muscular and skeletal systems. The Mars infographic also analyzes bugs, infrastructure and psychology. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.5/10 - Popularity: 55% | Activity: 43% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Science](https://www.trendhunter.com/science) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Martian Life Challenges:** The challenges of sustaining human life on Mars present opportunities for innovations in radiation shielding, sustainable habitat design, and terraforming technology. - **Mars Exploration Safety:** Innovations in protective space suits and radiation-hardened electronics and infrastructure are necessary to ensure the safety of astronauts on Mars missions. - **Mars Colonization Infrastructure:** Opportunities for innovation exist in the development of fully self-sustaining habitats, including advanced life support systems, energy production, and waste management, to enable long-term colonization of Mars. ### Where This Applies - **Space Exploration:** The Mars infographic highlights the need for innovation in space suit design, radiation protection, and infrastructure for human exploration of Mars, creating opportunities for businesses in the space exploration industry. - **Engineering:** Challenges in Mars colonization and exploration require engineers to design advanced systems for radiation shielding, life support, and energy production, leading to opportunities for innovation in engineering and technology industries. - **Environmental Sustainability:** Innovations in sustainable habitat design and waste management can create opportunities for businesses in the environmental sustainability industry, enabling long-term human habitation of Mars while minimizing impact on the planet. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Otherworldly Fashion Brand Billboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vollebak-mars-billboard.md) - [Mars Colonization Timepieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fortis-novonaut-amadee24.md) - [Sustainable Alien Planet Colonies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/colony-concept.md) - [Martian Toilet Prototypes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/martian-toilet.md) - [Educational Martian Metaverse](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mission-mars.md) - [Futuristic Mars-Themed Cafes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/marsthemed-cafe.md) - [Inflatable Moon Habitats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blompod.md) - [Mars ATV Trikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/atv-trike.md) - [Post-Colonization Mars Vehicles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spacex-fusion-concept.md)
