Researchers at a Hong Kong university recently announced the development of a new antiviral coating, named MAP-1, that provides surfaces—including fabrics—up to 90 days of protection against bacteria and viruses, including COVID-19. The coating boasts millions of nano-capsules disinfectants that remain effective in killing bacteria and viruses even after the coating has dried. The MAP-1 coating is different than other methods of disinfecting as it's reactivated by heat-sensitive polymers that release the disinfectant upon touch. Moreover, the coating is safe for humans and animals alike and will not disrupt the environment.
The MAP-1 coating is currently available for commercial distribution by Germagic, a unit of the Hong Kong University’s industrial partner — Chiaphua Industries Ltd.
