# Transforming Tooth Care Recliners The Mantis Portable Dental Chair Doubles as a Dolly By Amelia Roblin | Published 2011-05-01 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mantis-portable-dental-chair References: [designbuzz](http://www.designbuzz.com/entry/portable-dentistry-set-to-get-a-boost-with-folding-chair-that-doubles-up-as-a-dolly/) & [issuu](http://issuu.com/leahks/docs/leahks_portfolio?AID=10829131&PID=3640929&SID=skim3971X639606X1ec15b058ace207fcb4e6f8112915ccc) I confess to being ignorant of the needs of traveling periodontists, but should the need to transport awkward equipment around arise, the Mantis Portable Dental Chair would seem to be a critical contraption. Student Lee Kenttämaa-Squires came up with this complex concept, and has been named a finalist for the James Dyson Award. This project is particularly compelling when considering one function alone, but it's more than a simple collapsible patient examination recliner. Should a dentist have reason to haul heavy apparatuses, the Mantis Portable Dental Chair can be folded up into a compact object with wheels. What's more, this invention is rendered further useful in its setup as a mobile porter. It's comfortable and it can conveniently carry an additional load of boxes and bags. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.1/10 - Popularity: 18% | Activity: 7% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Portable Dental Equipment:** The development of portable and compact dental equipment such as the Mantis Portable Dental Chair presents an opportunity for dental professionals to expand their services outside of a traditional office setting. - **Multifunctional Medical Equipment:** The Mantis Portable Dental Chair's dual function as a recliner and a dolly demonstrates how medical equipment can be designed for more than one purpose, creating new possibilities for healthcare providers and patients. - **Mobile Healthcare Services:** The Mantis Portable Dental Chair can be easily transported, making it possible for healthcare providers to offer their services on-site or in remote locations, opening up new opportunities for mobile healthcare services. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Dental Equipment Manufacturing:** Manufacturers of dental equipment can explore the creation and development of more portable and versatile equipment such as the Mantis Portable Dental Chair. - **Medical Equipment Manufacturing:** In addition to dental equipment, medical equipment manufacturers in various specialties can innovate and design multifunctional equipment catering to the needs of healthcare providers and their patients. - **Mobile Healthcare Services:** Mobile healthcare service providers can adopt the use of portable equipment such as the Mantis Portable Dental Chair to provide their services on-site or in remote locations. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Dual-Purpose Camping Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chair-a.md) - [Collapsible Posture Support Seats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ergonomic-portable-seat.md) - [Insect-Like Seating Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-mantis-chair.md) - [Retractable Travel-Ready Toothbrushes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dentigo.md) - [Folding Travel Toothbrush Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/io-travel-toothbrush.md) - [Dual-Purpose Oral Care Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/electric-oral-care-kit.md) - [Folding At-Home Massage Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/robotic-massage-chair.md) - [Compact Foldable Camping Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foldable-lander.md) - [Self-Sterilizing Travel Toothbrushes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/plover-travel-toothbrush.md)
