The concept is intended to offer "a physical representation" of an everyday occurrence. Manspreading can be witnessed in an abundance of [public places](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/urban-furniture-concept), typically on the subway or on the bus. It is identified as "the practice of people, typically men, [who] sit [...] with their legs wide apart." Laila Laurel's manspreading chair is a clever response to this. The silhouette of the [anti-sexist furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-flap-chair) is made out of [cherry wood and sycamore](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tanuvi-hegde). The designer creates two different models of the seating and both mirror each other. While one is intended for the "woman," the other is geared toward the "man." ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.9/10 - Popularity: 99% | Activity: 99% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Anti-sexist Furniture:** Designing furniture that challenges gender norms and fights against sexist behaviors and attitudes. - **Social Commentary Designs:** Creating designs that make a statement and spark discussion about social issues. - **Alternative Seating Solutions:** Developing seating options that encourage more considerate, mindful behavior in public spaces. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Design:** Designing and manufacturing innovative, socially conscious furniture solutions. - **Art and Design:** Creating visually striking works that address and comment on social issues. - **Public Transportation:** Encouraging more respectful, considerate behavior on public transportation through innovative design solutions. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Minimalist Privacy Seating Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/furniture-seat-design.md) - [Cross Legged Chair Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sway-chair.md) - [Antitheft Storage Seating Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/afford-chair.md) - [Historic Dynamic Cane Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/charu-chair.md) - [Wellbeing-Harnessing Fan-Like Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shanti-chair.md) - [Anatomical Lounge Seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/himalaya-pelvis-chair.md) - [Collapsible Posture Support Seats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ergonomic-portable-seat.md) - [Hybrid Sit-Stand Furniture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lean-on-chair-concept.md) - [Insect-Like Seating Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-mantis-chair.md)
