# Nautical Asphalt Homes The Maitencillo House is Perfect for Seafaring By Vasiliki Marapas | Published 2014-05-12 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/maitencillo-house References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2014/05/12/maitencillo-house-chile-mas-fernandez-arquitectos/) & [masfernandez.cl](http://www.masfernandez.cl/) Mas Fernandez Arquitectos is the design firm behind the Maitencillo House, a single-storey residence located in the Chilean countryside. A vivid turquoise door provides a dash of color in this otherwise monochromatic asphalt-clad home. Working with a limited budget, the architects chose a rectangular layout to maximize space. The architects explain, "The root of the project arises from basic geometric figure the rectangle, which allows a simple location of the house in the area, taking into account the orientation and the views." The timber-planked interior contrasts nicely with the asphalt exterior, creating a distinctly nautical aesthetic. The vibrant front door opens into an open-concept kitchen, living and dining area, which is framed by a sliding glass door which opens towards the garden. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.9/10 - Popularity: 13% | Activity: 5% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Nautical-inspired Home Design:** Asphalt exteriors, vibrant front doors, and timber-planked interiors can create unique nautical aesthetics, perfect for seafaring and beachfront properties. - **Maximizing Space with Basic Geometric Figures:** Designing single-storey rectangular layouts can help in maximizing spaces even with a limited budget. - **Mixing Contrasting Materials for Unique House Designs:** Pairing contrasting materials, like asphalt and timber, can create distinct house designs and enhance the aesthetic appeal of any home. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Architecture:** Design firms and architects can experiment with contrasting materials and explore basic geometric shapes, like rectangles, to create innovative and aesthetically pleasing house designs. - **Real Estate:** Developers can explore nautical-inspired designs and capitalize on beachfront properties to attract potential buyers and offer unique home designs. - **Construction Supplies:** Manufacturers of construction supplies can explore opportunities in offering new and unique materials that can be paired together to create contrasting house designs. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Oak Wood-Clad Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/palo-quemado.md) - [Wooden Pavilion Seaside Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-of-circumferences.md) - [Concrete Coastal Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-lima-house.md) - [Forested Raised Metal Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-in-the-forest.md) - [Recycling-Centric Waterfront Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shor-house.md) - [Coastal Holiday Beach Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casa-ferran.md) - [Seaside Home Renovation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casa-de-praia.md) - [Simple Material Family Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/openfield-house.md) - [Coastal Chilean Eateries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mareida.md)
