# Majestically Swirling Desks Magnus Celestii by Joseph Walsh is Heavenly Sculptural By Meghan Young | Published 2014-07-01 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/magnus-celestii References: [fubiz.net](http://www.fubiz.net/en/2014/06/27/majestic-desktop-to-heaven/) & [josephwalshstudio](http://www.josephwalshstudio.com/2011/index.php/current-work/magnus-celestii) The Magnus Celestii desk is more of a work of art than a piece of furniture, hand's down. In fact, if it weren't for the dubious seat placed opposite of the 'tabletop,' no one would think to use it in such a mundane and practical way. Instead, they would lose themselves in its [swirling shape](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/interactive-transformation-table) that rises majestically to the ceiling. Designed by Joseph Walsh Studio, a firm based in Cork, Ireland, the Magnus Celestii desk is made out of [olive ash wood](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/barricane-tables) and finished with a white oil. A one of a kind creation, is located in the Artists’ House. A significant departure for the studio and workshop, the name is derived from the Latin language. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.4/10 - Popularity: 62% | Activity: 32% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Sculptural Furniture:** The Magnus Celestii desk blurs the line between furniture and art, presenting an opportunity for the sculptural furniture trend. - **Unique Creations:** The one-of-a-kind Magnus Celestii desk showcases the potential for creating truly unique and individualized pieces. - **Natural Materials:** The use of olive ash wood in the Magnus Celestii desk highlights the growing trend of incorporating natural materials in design. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Design:** The sculptural nature of the Magnus Celestii desk opens up possibilities for innovative and artistic furniture designs. - **Art and Craft:** The Magnus Celestii desk exemplifies the intersection of art and craft, presenting opportunities for collaboration between artists and furniture makers. - **Interior Design:** The use of natural materials in pieces like the Magnus Celestii desk can inspire interior designers to create unique and environmentally-friendly spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sculptural Wall Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-wall-desk.md) - [Floating Architectural Desk Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/1949-protractor-desk.md) - [Sophisticated Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/monumental-table.md) - [Minimalist Monochromatic Desk Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arqus-desk.md) - [Customizable Power Lift Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wyrmwood-modular-desk.md) - [Ultra-Chic Wall Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wall-desks.md) - [Bronze Luxury Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bronze-lilith-table.md) - [Ultra-Minimalist Elegant Desk Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/elegant-desk-design.md) - [RGB-Equipped Standing Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/magnus-pro.md)
