# Magnetic Refrigerators Putting Magnets Inside Refrigerators Instead of on Them By Jessica Marcel | Published 2009-09-11 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/magnetic-refrigerators References: [dornob](http://dornob.com/magnetic-refrigeration-futuristic-green-home-cooling/) [Magnetic refrigeration](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/solidstate-cooling-technology1) is the cooling system of the future. [Refrigerator designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/midea-5050-flex) are commonplace, but who knew that the inner workings of that thing that keeps our food cold could be upgraded, reinvented, and improved? But it turns out that this technology isn’t even new. It’s been around since the 1880s, and only now are some bright engineers talking about really using it in modern day appliances. As a recent experience taught me, the [old school coils](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ventiva-solidstate-cooling-system) that do the cooling on refrigerators are a less than perfect system. If you’ve experienced the hissing, steaming, and scary red glow coming from the back of your fridge, you should be first in line for this. I will be. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.5/10 - Popularity: 20% | Activity: 48% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Kitchen](https://www.trendhunter.com/kitchen) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Magnetic Refrigeration:** The technology of magnetic refrigeration can completely replace the outdated refrigeration mechanisms. - **Energy Efficiency:** Magnetic refrigeration can lead to more energy-efficient and eco-friendly refrigeration systems. - **Smart Home:** Magnetic refrigeration can be integrated into smart home technology, providing a seamless experience for users. ### Where This Applies - **Appliances:** Magnetic refrigeration represents a promising opportunity for the appliance industry to introduce innovative and efficient products. - **Energy:** The energy industry can benefit from the energy savings of magnetic refrigeration, reducing the environmental impact of refrigeration systems. - **Smart Home Technology:** Magnetic refrigeration can be a game-changer for the home automation industry by providing efficient and smart refrigeration systems for homes. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [AI-Powered Appliance Cooling Technologies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-hybrid-cooling-technology.md) - [Sleek Food Display Fridges](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kollect-smart.md) - [Wheel-Base Smart Refrigerators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fridze.md) - [Compartmentalized Smart Refrigerators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aura-refrigerator.md) - [Assistive Smart Refrigerators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kitchen-assistant.md) - [Refrigerated Vending Machines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/redyref-smart-food-fridge.md) - [Dynamic Lighting-Equipped Fridges](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lg-objet.md) - [Space-Conscious Kitchen Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/magnetic-kitchen-design.md) - [Recipe-Recommending Smart Fridges](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bespoke-4door-flex-refrigerator.md)
